A lot of talk about Valdez atm.

Whilst he's flavour of the month, who's the best MW you'd make him a favourite to defeat?

There's a thread pitting him against Nunn and he came up short there.

But who would we expect him to beat on his very best night?

Would he survive a shootout with Ketchel or Benn?

Would he be able to outwork Kalambay or Eubank?

Could he out punch LaMotta or McCallum?

What would his ceiling be in a prime for prime fantasy fight?

Benn? LOL. Valdez would kill Benn. I wouldn't give Nigel much of a chance. Valdez was a much better technician than Benn, with a much better chin, and comparable power. He knocks out Benn within 6.

I'd favor him over Eubank as well. I plain and simple don't think Eubank was as good a fighter as Valdez.

Kalambay vs Valdez is interesting. I could see Kalambay schooling Valdez. But I could also see Kalambay getting caught eventually and stopped.

McCallum? I think Valdez gives McCallum a very difficult fight, and hurts him badly at some point. But I'd favor Mike to pull it out.

Not sure why the thought of Benn v Valdez makes you laugh. I'd personally have loved to see that fight.

Who's the best opponent you think Valdez beats?

I'd make him a favourite over Bobo Olson, Jermain Taylor, Randy Turpin, guys like that.

Valdez-Benn would be a truly explosive fight, don't get me wrong. But Valdez would have to be strongly favored. Benn was tailor made for him.

To answer the question, I dunno. Maybe Lamotta on Valdez's BEST night, but probably not. Lamotta likely outworks him.

I'll say possibly Golovkin. When you see Kell Brook landing on GGG at will, then picture that as Valdez, the chances of Valdez upsetting Golovkin are very real.

    I reckon so.

    He's probably a top 25-30 MW h2h speaking.

I certainly couldn't see McFarland jumping up in weight and lasting th distance with him, but there's no way I see him defeating Gibbons.

Turpin I can see him beating, what about the next step? Guys like Fulmer, Basilio and Giardello?

How do you see him going against some of Hagler's middleweight peers? Sibson, Antuofermo, Minter, Mugabi etc? Does he stand above the division minus Hagler?

Valdez definitely beats Sibson, Vito, Minter, and Mugabi.

Whether or not he beats Hearns, now that's a different story.

As for how he fares against Hagler... he gives the late 80s Hagler a tough fight.

But I think the peak Hagler of the early 80s beats Valdez without too much trouble. Marvin matches up better against Valdez than Monzon did. And quite honestly, prime Hagler was better than Monzon.

He wasn't,...Monzon was too smart, too clever for Hagler...he fought tall and utilized his reach probably as good as or better than anyone,...certainly better than Hearns...and he was far tougher with a better chin thab Hearns as well. Monzon would have confused and outgeneraled Marvin over 15. The '72 version of Monzon wins decisively, and maybe even the '77 version of him as well.

Valdez would have found Hearn's chin and damaged him much worse than Barkley did.
