Who do you rate higher as an ATG and why? W Klitschko or E Holyfield

Klitschko. He reigned for longer and he was unique in that he had a brother who was also a world champ, probably doesnt contribute much to his greatness but it sets him apart from everyone else. To be a champion for over a decade in the modern times is a true test throughout and an extremely difficult achievement.

 

Tillman, De Leon, Parkey and Ocasio were full blown CWs too, just like Maccarinelli and Mormeck. You're basing your argument off of Qawi Muhammad but he proved himself a legitimate cruiserweight before he fought Holyfield.

As for Adamek, Cunningham, O'neill Bell, Banks>>>Mormeck and Maccarinelli

No. I rate Cunningham higher than Mormeck(you can even argue USS has better wins @ cruiser with his wins over Huck, Diablo and Jones, and Mormeck and Bell were evenly matched in their two fights), I rate Bell considerably higher than Maccarinelli and rate Banks higher than Fragomeni. But It's all debatable between Haye, Goral, USS, Gomez, Lebedev, Huck which goes to reiterate my point on Haye being one of the top cruiserweights of the recent history. Nothing more, nothing less.

You are right when you say "having a brother who was also a world champion probably doesn't contribute to Vitali's greatness." It is totally irrelevant.

As for being a champion in modern times: 1) there has probably NEVER been an era where it is easier to become a champion due to both proliferation of additional (and unnecessary) belts and general decrease in talent. 2) Vitali had several extended periods out of the ring where he did not defend the title. 3) Vitali never attempted to unify the title.

 

Klitschko is not an ATG. You might consider him a HOF but certainly not an ATG

 

He could never fight his brother. I dont think fans could take it seriously as I wouldnt. It'll be more a spar. Also they were both boring champions, boring vs boring wouldnt sell. I do respect their legacy though despite the factors you mentioned.

 

I agree 100%. This is a thread about Holyfield and Vladimir. But yet in post 57, you brought up Haye. So, why bring up Haye?
