Coke clears your **** in 3 or 4 days.

So while Slowey may or may not have been on it in the ring he had definitely taken it in the days leading up to the fight.

And that would benefit him how?

surely the rules are there not just to prevent enhancing someones performance but also protect the boxers themselves? I'm no expert on cocaine but the risks jon would have been taking to his own health must have been enhanced by taking cocaine before a fight even if it was a day or 2 before?

cocaine speeds the heart up, dehydrates you and leaves you feeling depressed does it not?

so imo although i don't think the ban should have been as high the fact is that cocaine is on the banned list and every athlete knows that they can get banned so jon isn't faultless here. if a tragedy had happened because of the cocaine use I'm sure some peoples stances on not getting banned for using cocaine before a bout would change drastically:thumbsup:

Who said that they shouldn't be banned? People were questioning the sense in boxers who take recreational drugs that only really harm themselves getting longer bans than others who take PEDs which help them hurt others.

you asked how it benefitted him? well I'm trying to point out that just because it is recreational and might not benefit him during the fight, that doesn't mean he can't harm himself:crazylick::crazylick:

like i said if jon or any other fighter taking cocaine led to a tragedy and him being left badly hurt or worse would you still not think they should be banned? I've already stated that i think it is a harsh ban but surely the fact it is on the banned list and you know you can't take it means that you have to take what is coming to you? especially when it is your second offence?

And I'm saying why are bans longer for recreational drug abuse when PED use is clearly more dangerous and affects the innocent party negatively rather than the irresponsible one. It makes no sense.

i really don't know why they give longer bans but there really needs to be more consistency on bans imo:thumbsup:

Maybe they came down harder on him because he got caught while he was in competition? I'd say it's a lot different if you catch someone who has been sat at home for 3 months with no fight lined up or someone whos been pinged in the days leading up to the fight?

The rules are that if you get caught with coke out of competition there's no automatic ban (although sporting federations can ban for that if they want to).

If you get caught for coke in a in competition test then it's an automatic two year ban.

Have a line and get 3 years, take something that could possibly contribute to killing someone and you get a fraction of that. Wtf is that about!?

I'm constantly bemused as to why recreational drugs are dealt with more harshly than PED's, I honestly wouldn't care if my lads opponent has had a spliff or a line however I'd be massively concerned if he has had a course of steroids
