Old Time Punching Machines?

Forgot the article is entitled "WHO HIT HARDER DEMPSEY OR LOUIS?" by EDGREN. Dont know what paper the article comes from. The drawings by Robert Edgren, has a date 11-5-39

 

Very, interesing. I havent found the article yet. But, this must have been a prime Louis (somewhere close to fight shape?) vs an ancient Jack Dempsey (not in proper training?) This is astonishing if true. Imagine the speed advantage a prime Dempsey would have had. Or was it somehow measured off of closer to prime film.

 

If you can get on Facebook and friend Gregory Speciale he posted the article. Edgren the writer was a well respected boxing writer, if you can find it it's an interesting read, even getting an opponent who fought both Louis and Dempsey, Jack sharkey, who gave his opinion of who punched harder Dempsey or Louis. I am going to type the article and post it when I have the time.

Look fool-- Fitz by testing high on the punching machine in 1902, giving Jeffries damage like he's never had before in 1902, and by anyone's account being deadly punchers is givens.

Boxers have had radar tests before, and no one is close to 100MPH.

If Dempsey threw punches at 120+ Miles per hour just two feet away, there would be next to no chance to get out of the way.

A baseball player is often hit by a pitch at 80-90 miles per hour, and he has 60 feet to see it coming and knows when it's coming.

Think about that for a while.

I did some research on the web, and as I suspected it's fantasy

British boxer Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton (ex-welterweight champ) had an average punching speed of 11 mps (25 mph), with maximum speed of 14 mps (32 mph). Check it out here:

According to the Guiness World Records, the "fastest martial arts punch in the world was 43.3 mph" or 19 mps.

The real champ in this league is the mantis shrimp, which can "punch" at a speed of 22 mps (50 mph):
