Which current HWs are better punchers than Marciano?

Do you guys think there are any heavyweights today who are better punchers than Rocky?

 

Better at delivering punches? doubtful.

Producing more powerful punches? loads.

 

Even in terms of raw power, I would not commit to many.

Wladamir Klitchko and perhaps others.

 

In a scientific power measurement probably quite a few .Actually landing punches at short range against a moving target and generating force and doing it in a 15 rnd fight thats more difficult to measure.

 

Marciano was a bit of a freak.
His strength wasn't so much his punching technique/delivery nor his raw power (which was, of course, at the least considerable for his size) ...... it was more his inexhaustable committment to his punching and the bloody-minded nature of his attack.
I mean, the little guy was just swinging at smashing at any inch of body space he could land on, with his fists, forearms and elbows .... and often connecting against the fists, arms and elbows OF HIS OPPONENTS, hips, skulls, whatever, not the correct soft target areas ..... and he must have been ignoring plenty of pain it cause him too.
He was in great condition, and mentally he was just a f--king savage, let's face it.

And that's no glorification. Just an honest assessment of what made the man a success in the ring.

 

How do you think C*ckell ,and Lastarza would react to getting hit by Joshua or Wilder ? How about a 37 years old Walcott or a 40 years old Moore getting tagged by that current duo?
Does C*ckell go 9 rounds with either Joshua or Wilder?
Does Lastarza go10 & 11 rds?
Does Ancient Moore go 9 rds ? He couldn't go 5 with Patterson a year later.
Does Ted Lowry177.75lbs & 180.75lbs go the distance twice with either?
Does 11-14-2 Willis Applegate ,who had lost his last 5 fights go the distance with Joshua or Wilder?
Does Gino Buonvino 24-14-8 who had been stopped by light heavyweight Nick Barone in his previous fight ,and stopped prior to that by Lee Savold ,and light puncher Roland Lastarza go into the 10th and last round against either of them?

Yep, Wlad.

His jab is one of the best ever, and so punishing.

His right hand is a freaking missile.

His left hook, which isn't even his best punch, is ATOMIC.

I actually cringe when Wlad lands punches on people. They are so hurtful.

 

Agreed, with one small point. I think Wlad's hook is even more powerful than his right hand.

 

Regarding point 2, i think i would agree with this to an extent.

But it is not Rockys power on the first punch of each round, it is the power of the 100th punch in each round. If measuring pure power, most of todays fighters (probably Klithchsko included) could not compete after throwing say 40 continuous punches. This is where Rockys power stands supreme, whether or not his one punch stats actually measure up.

 

Marciano trained like a machine ,total dedication, if he hadn't no one today would have heard of him.

 

So his 49-0 is overshadowed by his dedication to training? Hmm...

 

Without his dedication to training he would not have been 49-0.
None of his opponents were ever in better shape than he was.
I would have thought my point was self- explanatory really?

 

Without his dedication and specialist training Mike Tyson would have been a stumpy fat mugger until the day he died.

 

He would still have that innate hand speed though, and he wasn't fat as a youngster,he was well muscled from the age of 15!

 

Marciano would have still had heavy hands though and an amazing will to win. Tyson was definitely fat when he first started boxing.
