Tyson was faster of both hand and feet because Cus Damato trained him to fight like a light weight because he knew his opposition would be very tall guys in that era ,the speed had to make up for the distance in length . Marciano stood i one spot to deliver maximum impact ,Tyson didnt need to do that he hit from both sides even in south paw stance ,he was a lefty also . Marciano at times had to leap forward a few feet to land a big hook ,this would not work as well if at all against a 6'3 Holmes , the main differance is the actual speed which delivers not just power added but also punches you don't see coming .Marciano was by far easier to figure out ,opposition of a Holmes didnt exist then ,not even close to it .
Yes he worked him on what he called" the apparatus," a half dummy marked with numbers and he would call out sequences of numerical combinations .He did the same thing with Patterson and Torres.
No, his hand speed was faster because he was born with it. D'Amato's training methods helped refine it, but it was innate in his physical make up.If Marciano threw pitty- pat punches his hand-speed would not have been appreciably faster.
Tommy Morrison also did that , i guess former Tyson manager Bill Cayton adapted it who was Morrisons manager.
This is simply not true. Anyone can increase combo speed by putting less power in each punch. Ali couldnt punch as hard as Louis without decreasing speed. If you seriously think Marciano couldn't punch faster with pity pats, you are saying that he had some kind of very rare physical handicap.
You need to try this yourself ,you'll find it is much harder to throw controlled soft punches than big shots. Ali couldn't punch as hard as Joe Louis no matter what he did, that is the fact that you seem unable to comprehend.
I have tried it myself. I can switch up between fast arm punching and hard hitting easily. I can throw tons of arm punches fast as hell. There is simply no way to match my punch output using power shots. Even though I never said he would, I bet Ali could've been a great power puncher if that's what he trained himself to do since he was 12.
Two ton based on what i seen was the equivalency of butterbean. Norton would have stopped him like Louis did.
How many superheavyweights of any class did he ko? I'd say Tyson is the more proven hitter. I refer you to my question to you on You can bring out inherent pwer,as Steward did with Hearns but you cannot manufacture it. Ali hit a very heavy bag in training all it did was f8ck up his hands.Power is a gift. I refer you to my first post on your," Does Any Modern Heavyweight Hit As Hard As Marciano?" Which you somehow missed. "How do you think C*ckell ,and Lastarza would react to getting hit by Joshua or Wilder ? How about a 37 years old Walcott or a 40 years old Moore getting tagged by that current duo? Does C*ckell go 9 rounds with either Joshua or Wilder? Does Lastarza go10 & 11 rds? Does Ancient Moore go 9 rds ? He couldn't go 5 with Patterson a year later. Does Ted Lowry177.75lbs & 180.75lbs go the distance twice with either? Does 11-14-2 Willis Applegate ,who had lost his last 5 fights go the distance with Joshua or Wilder? Does Gino Buonvino 24-14-8 who had been stopped by light heavyweight Nick Barone in his previous fight ,and stopped prior to that by Lee Savold ,and light puncher Roland Lastarza go into the 10th and last round against either of them? You decide."
If you watch Tyson hitting the heavybag, notice how much of his impressive punching technique is based on speed. This content is protected Some of those setup punches are really light punches. When Tyson loaded up on one punch, he could hit hard af. But stylistically, Cus balanced his power with high speed and high output in short bursts. A very effective technique, but without much shelf life. I believe that Cus' training of Tyson had one inherent mistake. It wasn't sustainable for long fights. Just watch Tysons early sparring clips. Even with a high work rate, Cus constantly tells him to increase his work rate. Anyone who's ever been in a boxing gym would know that what Cus is asking of Mike isn't sustainable for long fights and late career wear and tear. Rocky also fought at a high work rate, but not in short bursts like Tyson. His output was more evenly spread throughout the seconds and minutes of the fight. Mike tried to end fights as soon as possible. Rocky just waited for openings in general.
