Dare we say winner will also be universally recognized as the new lineal HW champion after Furys retirement? Are Wlad and AJ #1 and #2 right now? Source: BILD.DE
So it's universal that Molina is going to sleep and Anthony and Wlad are on a collision course? It's looking very entertaining!! Where the hell is Wilder, this is a chance to get in the mix. He might as well get his passport renewed. It's time for CHAMPS to go around the world again.
Don't think so, no. Almost every list has Wlad 1 and Povetkin 2, so a rematch would give us a new champ. Wilder is rated over Joshua at most lists too.
I tend to agree, even after disposing of an overmatched Molina, AJ won't rise above Povetkin or even Wilder.
I'm a bit surprised Fury's retired and given up that belt. He could have kept hold of it. I guess he really doesn't see himself coming back, it's mainly his uncle and father who want him to fight again and good on him if does what he wants, not want they want. Fair play to him. No, Wlad and AJ are not #1 and #2 right now. By the time Wlad is ready to fight (April 2017?) he's going to have been out of the ring about 16 months, and will be TWO YEARS since he won a fight ! How the f--k can that make you worthy of a top 2 ranking? Anthony Joshua might have beaten a borderline top 10 fighter once or twice, but that's debatable. I mean, AJ just doesn't have any wins in his entire career to justify him being in the top 2, not even close. It would be far more reasonably to rank him #8 or #9 than rank him #2.
The UKAD hearing is tomorrow, and in my opinion it's very unlikely that Ring will allow him to keep that belt afterwards.
We get to hear Fury's ban and that would automatically trigger Ring Magazine to strip him. Unless they rule in his favor, but with all what happened that's very unlikely imo.
I didn't know Ring magazine stripped fighters like that. I thought the rule was you lose the title in the ring, or you relinquish it with an official retirement. And unless the rest of the world's governing bodies overrule the Fury-Klitschko fight and declare it a "no contest" (despite Fury testing clean surrounding that particular fight), there's really no grounds.
The Ring belt ceased being credible years ago. I seriously doubt many people will actually think Wlad-Joshua would create a new lineage.
He has not fought for a year and is automatically removed from The Ring. It doesn't matter if Fury officially abdicates. For the lineal title, even if Fury fights again and remains unbeaten a new lineage can be started if Fury is not regarded as the #1 or #2 fighter. For example if Wlad and Povetkin were regarded as the #1 and #2 fighters sometime in 2017 and met in the ring, the winner would automatically become the new lineal champion. No matter if they never beat Fury. The old saying "The lineal title can only be lost in the ring" is only true if the lineal champ stays active and remains at the top of the divisional rankings throughout his reign. Fury is obviously lacks the discipline for that.
The Ring's policies about their dumb belt aren't automatically the same conventions that should be adopted for lineal titles though. Jack Dempsey was inactive for years but was still regarded as the lineal champion at heavyweight.
Well if inactivity is the issue then Wladmir Klitschko can't be rated to contest the championship either. Last time I saw Tyson Fury or Wlad Klitschko in a ring they were fighting each other .... and Klitschko clearly lost.
