Which heavyweights had a better chin than Oliver McCall?

None had a chin that was equal or better than McCall's.

 

I'd say a lot of fighters had equal granite chin.
But no one had a better chin.

 

Physics dictate that Mercer took a much harder uppercut than Vitali did. Hospital records further prove it as he required surgery on his neck afterwards .
Vitali reacted the worse out all the guys who ever took a Lewis uppercut and he didn't even catch it as hard as Holy, Tyson , Mercer , Merovic etc etc.. Vitali has the most overrated chin in boxing.

 

Tua always showed a good chin as a pro. But I can't get the image of Felix Savon knocking Tua out with one punch in about 20 seconds in Tua's last amateur fight. Rahman also dropped Tua at the end of their rematch ... but Tua went down after the bell.

McCall's chin was pretty damn good. Bruno seemed to buzz McCall early in their fight (like the first or second round) ... which kept McCall - who was expected to charge out and try to blow Bruno away - from coming in for most of the fight.

 

Larry Holmes had a proven ATG level beard.

Plus the left hooks Morrison was catching him with,then he gets dropped by Holyfield! As another said,[Galvatron?] its subjective because different punches are landed on different opponents. Its similar to who hit harder Moore said Durelle and Shepard hit him harder than Marciano, that doesn't mean they hit harder,just that they hit HIM harder.

 

I would perhaps say none were better.A guy who had a good beard who hasn't been mentioned was Randy Cobb.Whoever mentioned Ross Purity made a good shout.

 

Yeah, Tex Cobb is a good shout.
He was knocked down a few times in 1984 or '85 fights but during his prime years he really absorbed a good punch.

 

Max Baer had a hell of a chin.

 

Well, it's my subjective opinion that none had a chin that was even equal to his. Including all the names that have been mentioned in this thread.

 

You may well be right. Bit touchy aren't we?

 

Definitely sometimes a lesser puncher can suddenly just catch somebody at the right angle at the right time with the right punch.

But Mercer took a knee, he was hurt but not out of it.
Probably afraid he couldn't clinch his way out of it as Holyfield knew how to finish and took the knee just to be sure.

The end of round 7 was the most brutal 3 punch combination I've ever seen a fighter take and remain on his feet.

Mavrovic walked into Lewis' suzie Q and then took another 2 brutal hooks after it.

 

Mercer Chuvalo Ali Holmes all had great chins
