Yeah i felt the 10-8 first might just have got Suttcliffe the draw, but scoring was poor, A lot of people hot on Sutcliffe, decnt fighter, good power but limited as to what he can do in his career, Euro level at best i feel, Speaking of levels couldnt belive the talk up creagh was getting in the run in to this,Mc Kenna was always going to dominate this, unfortunatley i had my money on the points decision buts thats how it goes,
The ref (Hugh Russells son I believe) completely overreacted. Ok maybe it might warrant a straight no-warning DQ in an amateur international or maybe the Olympics. But this is pro boxing...show business with blood. I remember Jerry Quarry did the same thing to Ali in the early 70s and there was no fuss at all. also Didnt Russell junior ref and score Sutcliffes fight too. I reckon Phil senior knows his daddy, hughie, from the old days and had a word with ol pal Hughie. Call me cynical but......
100% agree with the comment about Creaghs build up, thought it was very insulting towards McKenna, who was levels above Creagh. A few pros who have sparred Creagh were predicting him to win, well they would want to look at themselves if that's the case. Decent nights boxing in Dublin.
I thought Luke looked very good at times. Picked his shots very well, was patient and put some good combinations together. A decent scalp as well for his record.
Sounds like he is making the adjustments that he needs to. Thats good. Luke has the brains and athleticism to be more than just a one-dimensional slugger. One thing I can never understand about so many boxers that have a bit of power - they totally neglect the other dimensions of their game and totally depend on the power. Such an approach will only get you so far - and is doomed to fail. For example- Sutcliffe last night -or any night. No jabbing his way in, no head movement , no defence, just all aggression and power. I mean it stands to reason that if you are a hard puncher, chances your jab is hard too, right? So why not use it as a set-up punch???? Then land your bombs even better??? Why is this overlooked?
yeh i dont think the red knew what he was doing. also should have ruled him going back down on the ropes a knockdown
i think Paddy Barnes will be interesting to follow think for his sake he needs to be moved along quicker than others turning pro. Looked good with his combinations will he have the power or the chin to go far only time will tell.
See Hughie fury is headed to mgm as is con Sheehan and looking like sean mc comb heading there as well, wondering what people think of this, with Paddy barnes's high profile in this country I think he will be a star,MGM must be paying out the big money for these lads and we all know where it comes from,i personally don't agree with it, getting the right team shouldn't be all about money,me thinks it is clouding a few of our boxers, I think everyone knows what type of people the kinahans are, interested in what people think.
Strange news about ormonds weight if true. http://www.irish-boxing.com/stephen-ormond-make-return-lightweight/ He is not a young boxer. He couldn't make lightweight over the summer for a world title eliminator. How much more motivation is he ever going to have than that?
What's all this about " the Kinahans" and " we all know where it comes from" Dutchie? We need to stop and wait for some hard evidence...you know actual facts before saying stuff like that. Apart from the "gutter press" what actual FACTS...independently verifiable facts do you have. (Reading it in the Sunday world doesn't count)
Len,I have you down as a bright chap, every dog in the street know what's going on with the kinahans, imo boxers fighting out of mgm are ok with getting paid drug money but I think it stinks, greed seems to be winning out here and I for one am disappointed that our national heroes are fighting out of this shithole, every town in Ireland is flooded with the dust and I think people should do the right thing and box for legitimate gyms.
