So kind of leading the punch by popping the shoulder?

(Appreciate the advice by the way :) )

Yeah exactly. Find out how to get the most pop, get your weight behind it. Then find out how to put it into your punches.

    For what its worth!

I recommend reading Dempsey's book "Championship Fighting" He goes into great detail and explanation of the mechanics of punching. you can look online for a free pdf.

Short left hook is quite a relative term. You want your elbow to at least go behind your back before you whip your hips through. Look at Nonito Donaire, I wouldn't say he has a short hook.

There is a place for longer left hooks. Ezzard Charles utilized them in his counters a lot. I believe he got away with the long left hooks because his counters were very unpredictable really.

This sounds suspect ? No one at the gym would take a mihnute or two to hold a phone cam or whatever, just saying .

Always drive through the target for maximum power ,driving with the shoulder, technique is subjective in everyone but using the huge lat muscles of the back helps considerably in backing the force of the hook punch, specially to the body . Hook punches will generate more force because you get more leverage and core involved .

This is true ,shortness doesnt make the power the whipping motion does unless you are short and compact like Tua or Tyson who can just thrust upwards with basically just bent arm with minimal outside torque . Short hook knock outs are harder to see with less distance needed which can easily shake a jaw also resulting in a k.o but that has less to do with power more accuracy ,it doesnt take much to shake a chin with any type of connected punch..

Considering the people that go to my gym are gang affiliates or pro fighters no, they don't take time out of there workout to hold a ****ing camera for me lol. I unfortunately don't have the luxury of being at a gym that is open for more than 2 hrs each day and is full of people who slack off from there own workout. Not to mention at least half the time we are doing conditioning drills and shadowboxing. If a guy stopped and held my phone then coach would be all over his ass.

That's all I'm going to explain to you because you're just mad I called you out on that other thread. Idc if you think it is "suspect" or not it's the truth. If you don't like then shove it. My word is my bond and that means something to me.

Dude above me get out your feelings lol.

Anyway IME it's better to perfect your check left hook, before your full left hook. Look at the damage you can do with a simple 50% hook, if you use it in unison with turning your guy or stepping back to counter. Even then you want your elbow to atleast reach behind your back.

Let me clarify. You want to give your elbow enough room away from the body so you can whip your hips...then shoulder.....then arm around your opponents guard and thru the target. So yes short left hooks can be very powerful, if thrown correctly.

What thread? I have been to my fare share of gyms , I smell B.S because you are either a member of the toughest gym around where ppl just shrug you off or you are telling tall tales? either way athletes in general help each other you can't seriously expect anyone to believe NO ONE won't hold a camera for you not once? sorry im a bit smarter than that. either way would like to see a video, you guys talk about it so you should post ,I like to critique. Also what do you mean a gym that isn't open 2 hrs a day? Your coach won't hold a camera either?Wow you must be very important to not waste 2 minutes of your time?:campeon:

You also say pros go there which tells me its a lie because I know pro boxers and trainers around them,i find it hard to believe an athlete or someone who likes boxing wont help you out.

Well that's just how it is at my gym. If you don't believe me that's you problem. I've already said my piece. Why would I be recording myself to get better when I have trainers to help me in person? My coach knows a hell of a lot more than anyone I have met on the internet.

I never said a gym isn't open more than 2 hours a day. I said I don't have the luxury of going to a gym open for more than 2 hrs per day. Asking someone to hold a camera while I shadowbox is just goofy af anyway so quit being a ****ing bully and questioning me about **** I have no control over. Btw a gym with gang bangers and pro fighters in it doesn't make it tough. Most gyms are like that.

Edit: If you just want to see my bag-work then that is all you had to say. I have posted videos on here before so I have a bag at home that I can use.

The jealousy on this site is unreal. I get attacked on just about every post I make just because "pros go there". I figured that going to a gym wouldn't be such a surprise considering this is the TRAINING section! Sorry rez that this side argument happened on your thread, I just absolutely hate bullies and being called a liar.

Funny thing about this is a while ago some guy I never met asked me to hold his camera for him while he hit the speedbag.
    I politely declined.

When I'm working, I'm focused and people rarely disturb me unless it's a quick compliment or a tip on my form or a friend saying what up. If I want to film myself I tap record on the phone, and set it down at an angle.

But the gym can't be crowded because you don't want your smartphone just sitting out in the open.
