David Tua vs Ezzard Charles?

Let’s say that Louis retires when he does, the four belts split, and are up all up for grabs.

Who do you think would be the serious candidates to get them?

Who could theoretically win them, without benefiting Charles’s record?

You can’t have a scenario where nobody else wins them!

 

I've had the highlights of this film for 52 years. Louis had retired and named Walcott and Charles as the two standout contenders for his title He was paid around $100,000 to front the promotion for the IBC. Louis was the challenger when he made his comeback against Charles in what was the 4th defence of Charles NBA title.Louis had10 fights during his comeback he stopped just 3 men, Freddie Beshore 28-10-1who had lost his last 5 fights and Andy Walker who would lose his next11fights! Louis did not ko either .And Lee Savold who was almost as old as Louis.

Louis said if he had been near prime he would have stopped Charles in about 7 rounds.

I'm not going to call him a heavyweight champion just because he beats champs from different eras. What exactly does Tua bring to the table to beat Charles?

all I said was Louis landed some power punches on Charles. And it's true.

 

I'm not asking you to call him champion,I'm saying that because he could not beat Lennox Lewis does not mean he would not be a champion in different eras,which effectively answers your claim he could not win a title in his own era. What did Rex Layne bring to the table to beat Charles? Layne would not go ten with Tua.

BTW Louis did not ko Beshore, or even floor him he was stopped with an injury to his nose.


Andy Walker 17-20-7 ,Louis's other inside the distance win on his comeback was stopped10 times.

 

He's talking about speed and reflexes, not power.
He didn't have nearly the same power in 1950, but he was still a great puncher.

He got 3 stoppages in his next 8 wins. Don't know why you read that as a lack of power.
And the film shows the man clearly still had really have hands, and heavy punches.

 

I know what I see ,and what the record books show me ,and I'm arguing with someone who says Louis was the champion when he challenged Charles.Why bother!

 

im gonna say tua .....but man tua struggled bad against jeff wooden and won a majority dec ....so who knows

 

I don't think how Tua performed against A 6'3" southpaw who typically weighed between 215 and 225lbs ,gives us much of a line as to how he would perform against a 6' 0"orthodox fighter who weighed about 185/187lbs.
