    It can only help, no?

Mayweather is a good example of someone who has both.

Oh yes it helps definitely but I wouldn't say Mayweather has especially fast feet would you?

Ah you said fast feet. My bad, didn't notice that.

I think while his footwork doesn't operate at a high activity rate, when he does move his feet, he can move fast. And I do think that matters on top of spatial awareness and timing.
I would pick a better example than Floyd if we're talking about fast footwork though.

Holmes lacked an effective left hook.
Chavez did not have the greatest of defences but had nearly everything else imo.
Monzon was a bit pedestrian , but a very intelligent fighter.
Johnson was a pure counter puncher.
    Ross lacked power.
    Just thinking out loud.

What has to do one thing with the other?, Chavez was great at cutting of the ring, that doesn't means he had fast feet.

I recognize the Hagler you describe,I am an enormous fan but the Antuofermo and Duran fights prove the validity of your statement!
Gomez was excellent but had chinks in his defence imo.
Jofre is an excellent shout, skills, sangfroid, and power in his right hand to close the show.
I always describe Spinks as herky jerky, not aesthectically pleasing but as you say tremendously effective, he bossed some fine 175pounders.

If Saddler had a weakness it would be his hittability imo , coupled with a lack of top speed for a featherweight, but an exceedingly strong man for his division ,with a champions attitude, and a vicious puncher.

Thanks for the additional insights. I want to watch a bit more Saddler.

Just one thing, i believe Gomez's defense was actually very good early career but it tapered off as he got older. Earlier on he was quite the boxer/puncher with excellent head movement. Later on he got a bit seduced (or lazy, or something) by his own power and put noticably less importance on defense. He then seemed more than content to simply trade punches knowing thqat his own would prevail most every time.

As I seem to have double posted,[slow adaptability a sign of old age.]
I'll add another ingredient to the cooking pot.

    Ike Williams.

Being able to cut off the ring isn't quite the same thing as foot speed but of course it can compensate for the lack of the latter.

I wasn't impressed with his foot work, but he was a fine boxer who maximised his reach, had good hand speed and awesome power at147lbs.

Mike Tyson was a textbook fighter, he had every punch in the book with great footwork and defence. He lacked a little adaptability and stamina but as a technical fighter he was near enough perfect.
