Leonard had poor adaptability he adapted his way to a loss in the first Duran fight, when he could have out boxed him. He didn't adapt against Hearns until he had a detached retina.

If it's just one fighter l gotta go with SRR, but in terms of fighters l've seen in my lifetime probably Duran. But l do think a prime Roy Jones is getting a bit short changed and l'm glad Sanchez was mentioned. His fight against Gomez was awe inspiring.

    -Salvador Sanchez.
The night he stymied and hunted down Gomez was sheet perfection. Another half dozen years would have told an incredible tale.

    -Flowers.
Same. Another half dozen years to stamp his greatness.

    -Louis
    -Duran
    Both proven.

People in this forum say Sanchez was a finished product as a fighter. Do you think he would have improved? And in what department did he have the most room for improvement?

In my opinion he had reached maturity. I don't think he would have improved, just had more chance to show his dominance. He was complete in every category as a fighter, and had arrived at possessing fully the determined confidence to know his own greatness and ability(an awareness only the great champions are privy to, and that seperates them from the rest). I think over the course of more years he would have left no doubt that he was unbeatable at his weight class and the class above. We missed nothing of who he was, just lost out on more of it.

SRL was still in the learning phase for the first Duran fight and oh how he learnt. Duran completely and utterly outsmarted him in the lead up and had him fight exactly the fight he wanted. Amazingly it was a fight just about anyone would favor SRL in, being the (naturally) much bigger fighter with superb power and blinding handspeed. Duran knew better.

As for whether SRL could have outboxed him in the initial encounter, well tat has been the subject of a dozen or more turbulent debates in here over the years. There are solid arguments on both sides.

Did SRL beat Hearns, one of the most dangerous 147's ever to draw breath? By stoppage none the less? Criticising SRL for his winning strategy against Hearns is beyond absurd.

SRL is one of the most adaptable and intelligent fighters ever to lace them up. He also had a first class corner.

I don't know if l've ever seen the tables get turned quite like that before. They both employed the perfect strategies to beat each other but in different fights.

Sanchez was always vulnerable to the right hand.
He showed improved defence for it in his last 2 fights.

Pretty much discounting the older fighters charles, robinson etc because tbh i ve not seen enough of them. But looking through that list of attributes...i m going ali if you take his whole career into account. He pretty much ticked every box at one point or another. If there was someones attributes you would pick for yourself it would probably be his for me.

Prime duran should probably get a mention. Tbf mayweather pretty much ticked every box not always the most entertaining but certainly hard to beat. You could probably mention all of the fab 4 here tbh. Each of them maybe didnt tick every box on that list but they ticked a lot of them. Overall tho for me i m going ali. Through his career he ticked every single one of them boxes at one time or another.

I would appreciate posters voting under the criteria I have itemised. If anyone wishes to change that criteria I suggest they make another thread detailing and ticking their own boxes and get the f*ck out of this one.
    Cheers hope this offends.
