Watched the gloves are off on YouTube last night. Groves talking about how he was gonna end Froch career. The truth is Froch walked away a happy man and Groves career has been ruined.
Froch took his virginity away...and it was like leaving the next morning without saying anything, and never calling or contacting a bird again. Its a soul destroying experience that Groves suffered, just like the teenage girl who pops her cherry to a guy who runs away and hides. Groves has lost that edge he had before he fought Froch, and the recent fights I have seen him in, he has look like dog doo doo
I agree, although I have a feeling he will pick up the WBA title against someone we have never heard of and cash out v Degale.
This content is protected that's how I see it froch is building cobra'd grove a housing estate it will home 80,000
Groves was winning the first fight by a mile before the referee robbed him. The second fight he had no excuses. Froch was an excellent champion and there was no shame in losing to him. Groves has matured and is benefiting from having McGuigan has his trainer.
Groves has looked sharper and more switched on since teaming up with McGuigan. Solid recent win over Murray.
I wouldn't say Groves' career has been ruined. Derailed yes but he had a big win over Murray and still has big money fights in the pipeline. He's looked the best he has since the Booth days under McGuigan and he's still a threat. Set himself up for life as well with the Wembley payday. Froch, yeah he retired a happy wealthy man. But he would have left with a lot more respect if he had retired straight away instead of waiting a year, teasing a GGG fight with "too big, too strong" and refusing to fight Degale too.
Did Froch fight again after the two Groves fights? Well he DID end his career then. Seriously though, after those two fights, Froch didn't want any more battles. He was far happier with the idea of playing a bit of poker, doing a few lines and earning the odd payday through commentary gigs.
groves fans claiming groves retired froch no it never happened but what did happen froch destroyed groves broke him physically and mentally and after groves had doubted frochs mental capacity how them tables turned froch will forever own groves confidence groves will now always have self doubt something he never knew before hand the truth is groves is not what he claimed to be first time round and a big win over murray sorry murray since ggg is a middleweight gatekeeper
How did he 'duck' a return with Ward after the Groves rematch when Ward still didn't fight for a further 13 months after that fight due to contract disputes?
Early stoppage, yes. But it was only a matter of time - probably seconds - before Froch took him out. Although the ref stepped in early, I do wonder what form of defence Fitzpatrick had instructed Groves to use when hurt; the turn your back, slump forward, hands down, wobbly leg, stagger about defence? He was open to free shots with no rigidity in his stance to absorb them. Groves was about to be badly hurt. Once he'd staggered into the ref's arms there should have been a standing 8 count and a it ruled a knockdown in a similar way a ref can call one if the ropes hold up a boxer. George's performance merited the right to at least take his KO like a warrior, but it was coming, there's no doubt about that. So I disagree, he wasn't robbed it was merely an unsatisfactory way for a great fight to finish. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/11/24/article-2512835-199AEBF100000578-299_634x430.jpg
Agreed. The ref stoppage made the rematch! if the first fight carried on another 10 seconds Groves would have been laid out, he was out on his feet.
The poor stoppage made Groves a millionaire, and gave him the 15 minutes of fame that he craved. Had the first fight been allowed to reach the obvious conclusion, Groves would have faded back into relative obscurity.
Groves did excellent in his first fight. But he was spent. No way in hell he could last the stretch with the cobra. Last few rounds Carl comes on like a steam train. Not a very pretty one but it gets the job done
