Under that type of criteria I'd say Rocky Marciano.
He was 100% pure fighting man, a fighter through and through, down to the marrow, and he never lost.

I don't think he used the hook to much effect, the only occasion that I can think of was against Bonavena.

Split decision win over Cowdell ,a win over Gomez coming up in weight, and one over a novice in Nelson.Sanchez never fought Pedroza, so we cannot claim he was the best of his time

You base the Flowers quote on all the footage you've seen of him?
BTW. If Flowers would have had "Another half dozen years to stamp his greatness," he would have been 40 years old! He had his last fight when he was 34!

He floored Mildenberger with a left hook and Foster several times as well. He finished off Quarry with a left hook, right uppercut combo and it was also a left hook that really finished Lyle.

Just watched the Lyle fight it was started by a big right cross. He floored Mildenberger 3 times with right crosses one of which finished the fight, he did drop him with a left hook as he came in, but I stand by my point that he was not known for the punch.

You're right about that, but his hook was effective on more occasions than generally given credit for. He also had some memorable left hook, right cross combinations, most notably against Williams and Foreman. But, yes, the straight right and right cross were his money punches.

The right hand in the Ron Lyle fight was one of the best Ali ever threw.
That was more damaging than any single shot Foreman landed on Lyle.

What Duran had will never be seen again. Humanity has gone too soft. The art form of pugilism is thinning out as the years roll on.

Yeah, he was impervous to pain and damage - to everything but having to relieve himself actually.

I really like the left hook in the middle of that attack as well. He was **** for much of that fight, but the finish was beautiful.

Never seen footage of Flowers. Wish I could! I'd love viewing footage of Greb fighting also, not just his training sequences. Shame we only have testamonials and fight records.

And perhaps the information I have is inaccurate, but I always had it in my head Flowers died at 32 years old. His late start at boxing professionally (23) gave him plenty of carreer left, in my estimation. He would have been 38 in half a dozen years, still within the range of being effective, though surely declining.
