After the face-off they shook hands and Kovalev got in a playful fist-bump love-tap on Ward's solar plexus (after clapping him on the shoulder in a friendly sportsmanlike gesture) and Ward didn't react. Cool moment.

Golden Boy has fought Kovalev, Alvarez, Lepikhin, Grachev (who kayoed Sillakh and beat up Bute in the middle rounds and put him on Q St. a few times), Miranda, Bellew, and Oosthuizen and scantly been so much as buzzed. I think his reputation can be forgiven a single 10-7 round where he walked into a perfectly-placed right cross from sharp punching (and once highly touted, even if he ultimately proved to be a career waster) Maxim Vlasov, got straight up and went on the attack, then was caught again with the same punch during an exchange after thudding Vlasov with several hard shots of his own.

Have you even seen that round or are you just going off BoxRec?

What that video shows is somebody whose defense in 2011 was still very lacking (not that it has become great since then, just more serviceable) - I don't think anybody in their right mind watching that in a vacuum without any knowledge of who is who is going to come away saying "yeah the black guy has a shaky chin". The far more logical extrapolation is "damn, what a dumb ass walking into that shot twice, but HOLY COW what balls & chin, the way he fought back hard both times".

 

On this we definitely agree. I'd even say Dre would probably spark his ass out. That cutesy lackadaisical outside circling and keeping dudes honest with the predictable left hand power lead is way too basic for SOG. He would get in his chest, go wild and cause mayhem, tearing open that mandible along the perforated line.
