Both fought as heavyweights but their best weight was 175. Who was the better light heavy and why? I personally think spinks was better than both.

    Talk about it

I used to think Foster but now realise it is Charles. Charles has a staggering record at 175.

Charles. Foster competition to me does not compare.

Charles. I'd rate Spinks above Foster, based on level of competition.

    Message to Jean-Yiss:
Eddie Gregory was a better fighter than Spinks! If his head was screwed on straight and not had to lose major poundage after his stupid 'effort' against Snipes? A comfortable UD against Michael. He was winning the first half of the Spinks fight until the "shriveled pear" ran out of gas. Spinks hit him with a Sunday Jinx that decked him late in that fight. The result? Eddie got up and finished the fight. Sidebar: The Associated Press called their fight a draw due to Eddie's dominance prior to his out of shape meltdown. Ezz is the #1 LH in my opinion. Foster had that strange rangy body that would give any LH h e l l in addition to that jab and LHook. What would the "jinx" have done against Ali/Frazier? A slightly fading Ezz gave heavies h e l l.
And, once again 'ad nauseum' Eras boys, eras!

Charles was never a 175lb fighter for long enough. Patterson was a LHW for the same amount of time yet nobody champions Floyd in these debates.

At least Foster ruled the division for a long time. But then Charles was the better heavyweight so it says it all really.

Floyd was #1 lightheavyweight contender to Archie Moore upon Marcianos last fight. He beat Durelle x2, Willie Troy, Tommy Harrison, Jimmy Slade x2, Dave Whitlock and then as a rated LHW Floyd beat heavyweights Archie McBride and Tommy Jackson then reigning LH champion Archie Moore himself for the heavyweight title.

Whaaaaaaaaat?????? Being strict with the weight stipulation Charles had more fights in the division than Foster!!! He also had more there than Spinks career spanned.

Charles has an exceptional record at 175. He and Patterson aren't even comparable there.

Patterson didn't do anything at175lbs He beat Yvon Durelle and, while weighing178.5 Jimmy Slade.
Charles beat Marshall,Moore x2 Maxim x2Bivins x2Smith.Based on resume He is clearly more proven than Floyd or Foster.

He beat Durelle and fought a bunch of 8 rounders. It isn't even comparable.
