I am shocked. I thought kovalev looked a clear winner.
I really can't see how kovalev didn't get that decision

How they all had the same scores is strange, but it could've went both ways. I thought Kovalev won the 12th round. Ward did a lot of holding and hitting, and Kovalev didn't cut the ring too effectively. Definitely need a rematch and I think bot would make adjustments. Kovalev needed more of the jab, keep his hands up, cut the ring better, and keep range. He got pot-shotted with jabs and body shots.

Great point Max. This is a deserved controversial decision that will and should be debated. Both guys are great and it was close. Kovalev throw more and knocked Ward down, but Ward controlled rounds 5 to 9 for sure, and the last three were hard to score. It was a great tactical boxing match, and both laid it all out there. If you don't recognise how great this fight was, you suck.

Let's just say Kovalev did better than I thought and Ward did better than you thought. As boxing fans, we were treated to a good fight.

Moving, throwing and landing punches is what Ward was doing. If he was only backing off without throwing much in return(DLH vs Trinidad), then sure you can say he was running. Ward can't and WON'T go in there, open up and exchange with Kovalev. That would be suicidal, which is why tactics and gameplan play a major role in our sport.

They didn't exactly hurt him but it's not just about hurting - they were clean, they clearly did have an effect, even snapped Kovalev's head back. Some of Ward's bodywork I think has been disregarded by people who are outraged by the decision.

Good fight thought Ward was on his way to a KO loss after the first handful of rounds, but thought he adjusted nicely and came on strong at the end. Didn't score but it seemed to me every rd was close, kinda drunk will have to rewatch it maybe tomorrow to get a better feel but from where I stand 7-5 either way in terms of rds won seems like a good call. here's to a rematch both fighters showed top quality class.

7 clear rounds for Ward and 5 clear rounds for Kovalev plus the knockdown. 114-113, you simply cannot score it any other way. Ward won, get over it. 8)

It was good, but the wrestling and clinching ruined some potential great moments.

Credit for Ward for the way he came back as I thought he was finished, however he didn't do enough to win championship belts. You usually have to beat the champ convincingly to take the belts home.

They forced a reset and the body shots clearly took some steam out of Kov as the fight went on. They don't have to visibly hurt you to have an effect.
