I watched the replay of the fight on YT this morning and thought Kovalev was robbed in that fight. I scored the fight 116-111, shame on those American judges!
I thought Ward did the better work no problem with the result very close fight could have went either way
I can't believe they had 3 American judges scoring the fight, if course they were always going to give those close rounds to Ward, the guy won an Olympic medal for his country FFS. If the same thing happened in Germany or Russia everyone would be screaming fix.
Kovalev was robbed blind and your either blind, a complete idiot or a ridiculously biased Ward fanboy to think otherwise.
Apart from the 2nd round, the fight was an absolute stinker and I cannot argue with whatever way the judges scored it as long as the scores were close. After watching Krusher in his last fight with Chilemba, a stinker was predictable. Similar to Floyd, Ward is good at what he does but I would not be in any hurry to buy a ticket to his fights.
I stayed up and watched it and although i didnt score it rd by rd, i felt it could of gone either way. Kov started good but wasnt the same in last 4rds and ward came on in last 4 but didnt start as well. A lot of the rds were scrappy and went exactly how ud of expected with ward, in a fight of this magnitude.
116 to 111 for Kovalev. I thought he did the much better work from rounds 1 to 8. Ward was negative constantly attacking Kovalev by clinching, even going in for a single leg takedown attempt in round 3. Ward only started to get into the fight in the championship rounds.
Set my alarm for 4am and vaguely remember it going off and my mindset being 'b****cks to that'. Wasn't surprised by the verdict although I was by Kovalev landing on him in second. I'm yet to see the fight but is Ward slowing down a tad?
I wouldn't argue with that result. Would like to watch it again sometime. But I think he did the better, cleaner work after round 2. Kovalev didn't cut the ring off well enough and didn't land much clean in the second half of the fight. He looked tired by round 7/8 too. It was close though depending on how you scored the close rounds, I couldn't split them on 2/3 of them. I half wanted a draw, it wasn't a classic but I enjoyed the tactical battle.
There was no way Ward won 7 rounds, especially on all 3 cards. I have no idea how they could allow 3 American judges for the fight. Kovalev threw more punches, landed more punches, pressurised Ward more and landed more hurtful punches.
I had Ward winning but I cba debating it again because I left all my comments during the RBR in the general section. I absolutely loved that fight. Such a fantastic story over 12 rounds. There was a true disgusting robbery on the undercard when a SD draw was the outcome after Darleys Perez totally put a schooling on American hype job Maurice Hooker.
