It was a close fight and it could have gone either way. It was no robbery.

 

Does Ward really have a "pitiful mandible" though?

I don't have a horse in this race, so for me I was able to watch two elite fighters with completely different styles put together a very entertaining fight for the fans. On Ward's end, I saw a guy show his true resolve and resiliency. Most fighter's would've just folded from the pressure by the 3rd round, but he proved his mettle and showed his resiliency by coming back to fight him much more effectively in the back 6 of the fight.

He nicked a lot of those rounds, especially in the middle of the fight. It would've been nicer if him or Kovalev could've won some of those close rounds a bit more clear cut, but this is what happens sometimes when a boxer faces a puncher- you get some extremely close rounds. I will say though that this was KOvalev's fight to win; if he didn't have such conditioning issues by the middle of the fight, he could've easily walked away with the victory. He didn't put together a good performance in the latter half of the fight and he probably won one round at most in the championship rounds.

I get why fans of Kovalev would be angry about the decision given the fact he dropped Andre early and was clearly dominating the early part of the fight. I watched an interview given by Ward 2 days before the fight and he spoke about how Kovalev's stamina (or lack thereof,) would be the key factor in him beating Sergey. I thought he was speaking blasphemy when he said that, but he was right on the mark about it on fight night. If Kovalev didn't have stamina issues, he could've at the minimum been able to decision Ward.

Calzaghe would of destroyed ward in a one sided lacy beatdown.

 

He'd do Slappy Joe like he did Dawson. Ward has just surpassed Slappy Joe in the p4p rankings, we have to remember that his best win got handled by a green Ward more convincingly. 8]

 

Wards chin is solid. Those Krusher jabs have folded guys in half.

His right hand floored iron chinned Clilemba and destroyed iron chinner Pascal. Ward took many a flush blow off Sergey.

 

Ward staggered by a Jab and saved by the bell from a decent hook lol his chin is bad he protects it well and needs to.

Clear robbery anyone claiming it as close can't score fights.

Kovalev bullied him, walked him down and out landed him all night. people claiming this was close are the same who claim Pac was easily beaten by Mayweather.

This fight was a gift for Dana White and a nail to boxings coffin. No foreign fighter should go to the USA anymore as it's impossible to get a fair result and money changes hands clearly. Home town cooking of the highest order.

Anyone claiming Calzaghe would lose to Ward must be talking about Enzo Calzaghe cos Joe stops him in 3. Joe raped a prime Hopkins who is a much better fighter than Ward. Ward may get a decision in the USA over Enzo though.

That body work sapped Kovalev's energy and open for Ward's head attack. Them left hooks started to land on Kovalev and that body work had Kovalev holding on.

 

Ward's chin remains suspect, that much was shown in this fight. I would still predict Kovalev to brutally expose that questionable mandible next time, as he almost did this time!

 

Calzaghe would eat Ward alive. That would not be a close fight.
