When he came into his Sagat-like Street Fighter music, it actually made me think damn, that's a scary monster.
The look he had in his eyes when looking at Ward during the referee instructions - they were genuinely soulless and he was out for death. No rhetoric, it genuinely was the case.

I rate Ward so highly anyway that Kovalev turned out to be the one I'm most impressed with. For me, Ward proved his ability against genuinely elite opposition and looked very, very impressive against them. We all knew he was the goods at that truly elite level. Ward is as 'proven' you can be.
With Kovalev, we saw him dominate 'good' opposition, but none of them were elite. So to see him be evenly matched with Ward has made me massively respect him. Hell, most boxing analysts and even casuals have him winning the fight.

Sergey Kovalev is truly legit. Ward is an ATG talent to me, I can say with full confidence on an H2H level, Kovalev is too.

Good post m8. I agree. I think if the fight was on Sergey's turf or even neutral grounds he would have got the decision. Notice I say got the decision because we all know who won the fight. Kovalev was honestly better in my opinion at the finer points of the game. He was timing Ward coming in and using the jab well. Ward had to move in close and rough it up to get the decision.

I've been meaning to ask if anyone has a link to his entrance theme. It was genuinely great villain music that would have sent shivers down many attendees spines.

Yep, everyone thought that Kovalev's only chance was basically blasting Ward out early. And I was actually a bit afraid myself that Ward may even expose him as just a one dimensional slugger...

But his boxing man, I'm really impressed by how he was able to hang with Ward not only in parts but throughout the whole fight, even the last round by which Ward was supposed to have him easily figured out and made his adjustments was extremely close. He boxed with Ward till the last bell.

I always rated Kovalev highly but yesterday made me rate him even higher even if he lost.

Just found it. Absolutely beautiful and badass. It just screams ''Death beckons, welcome it.... for you shall die''

Will definitely add it to my track list for training.

And go watch the movies Brat 1-2 as well because they are great and Kovalev's entrance theme is from that movie (the second one).

If he just stuck to the jab a bit more, it would've been clear although very competitive for Kovalev.

100% agree. I was worried that people were all of a sudden going to turn their back on Kovalev because I thought although Ward may get knocked down a couple of times, he'd win a 9-3 fight and Kovalev would look lost beyond that lineal attack that he sticks to. He was far more cerebral than what I thought.

Definitely beautiful. When the clarinet or whatever it is starts erratically in small bursts and then goes into full tune makes it feel like there's a sense of life slipping away and the destiny is a doomed and rapidly approaching one...genuinely feels like that. I'm surprised I'm not the only one who felt it from that.

I've never been more impressed by him. Ward is an extremely smart fighter who can figure out opponents and make subtle adjustments like no-one else. I thought he'd figure out a way to win a relatively clear decision, along the lines of 116-112. Even though it was close, I thought Kovalev clearly won. I just can't give Ward 7 rounds.
