Yes you said it before I could,way too much wrestling which is a feature of Wards fights,pot shot jab,lunge and wrestle,it's hardly the stuff of good fight.
Makes sense. Ward isn't known for his high workrate and tends to limit his foe's workrate, too. That said, if the fight is closely contested and if every punch seems to mean something, that can make up for a lack of continuous action. Gonzales-Cuadras probably still tops my personal list of candidates of FOTY, though.
Yeah it was a very good fight because the clash of styles, tactical battles (especially around range) were as good as it gets, and Ward having to dig deep to get out of the hole he was in which is something we haven't seen him have to do in the past and ring IQ displayed was at the highest levels. Kovalev being prepared as well as to be expected. The nervous energy from the crowd, not unlike game 7 of the NBA finals. The fight lived up to its billing, boxing is great.
When the highlight of the round is the hardest jab that landed, you know there's something wrong. Nevertheless, the standard for megafights has been set so low in these recent years that I've found yesterdays fight to be fairly watchable, if not somewhat entertaining. Like it was mentioned earlier in the thread, if it wasn't for the big names involved, I doubt many people would care for it.

Very good fight to watch, shame the racist/nationalist American judges cheated for their man. This is why boxing is ignored in the sports world.
yes. My 15 yo and I split the PPV. We got to see a great fight by 2 of boxings finest fighters, but we were robbed of our 54.95 along with Kovalev and his family weeks ago when JayZ bought the judges and referee.
I enjoyed it a lot. It was a competitive bout and both fighters had their moments and competed to the final bell. Unlike most I did not cheer for any of the two and thus I could enjoy the fight regardless of the outcome. I had feared excessive clinching, and perhaps even headbutting, from Ward but the clinching was at a reasonable level (and not as onesided as I thought) and there were no headbutts. Both fighters delivered on what I expected, i.e Kovalev showed his power early in the fight and Ward demonstrated how brilliant he is at figuring out his opponent and finding a way to victory. Unfortunately I don't expect a rematch to be as exciting. Kovalev never really threatened Ward following the third round and at this point Ward has too much data going in to the rematch.
It was a tactical fight. Go back and watch round by round it was a pretty even fights. They should totally rematch. Maybe next time we will have a clear winner.
NO! I paid to see boxing, not holding, wrestling, running...................Kovalev clearly won the fight!!! Kovalev is still the champion, was was given the belts, but did not win them.......................................................
The fight was good , but the juding awefull. Ward's style is ugly, even worse than Mayweather for watching. At least Mayweather had awesome defense and just waited for the right timing to score his shots. Ward... Dirty playing and klinching all the times
