Thinking about Lucas Matthysse and how he has never won a championship got me to thinking about the best fighters of each decade who were uncrowned, and never would be. Off hand, for 1900-1910 Sam Langford would seem to be a lock. 1940-1949 had Charley Burley, and 1970-1979 had Jimmy Young. Curious of ESB Classic's opinion on the topic.

Sam Langford would be behind Packey McFarland on the list, whether you choose 1900s or 1910s.

In the mind of Lucas Matthyse, it's impossible to win a world title (it isn't impossible to beat a world champion tho).

Which world ranked middleweights did Papp beat to justify you picking him for the 1960's?
Why should he be picked over ?
    Hank
    Fernandez
    Archer
    Hayward
    Harrington
    Duran
    Carter
    Gonzalez

Papp was ranked for 3 years and never in the top 3.He was no7, in 62 no4 in63, no4 in64.
Miranda was ranked briefly at no3 in 2006, his only top win was over Eastman, every time he stepped up he was beaten.

Since we (here on Classic) have determined, that Langford is the GOAT... how can he be behind McFarland on a list of the best boxers never to win a world title?

Read what absolute majority of sporting writers and boxing people were saying about McFarland and Langford at the time they were fighting, and there'd be no question that McFarland was thought to be a better fighter/boxer than Langford, P4P the best fighter in the world from around 1909 until 1913, something nobody could say about Langford at any stage of his career.

I want to know which rated professional middleweights Papp beat to justify you ranking him as the best middleweight that did not win the title in the decade beginning 1960 and ending in1970?
Papp was 30 year s old when he beat the 20 years old Torres at 156lbs in the Olympics its totally irrelevant!

Miranda was only rated briefly for a few months his name does not belong here ,neither does Papp's
Papp never even got into the top 3 ranked contenders!

I'm waiting for your list of the rated PROFESSIONAL middleweights Papp beat.

    Andre Flannel?

Stevenson is a good shout out. But is it better than a win over a dangerous 70's Foreman, a past it but still serviceable Ali, two Lyle victories and a split decision loss to Norton? I'm not so sure, tough call.

I think Langford would beat him in a 20 round fight.

And Tommy Burns would have beaten Joe Gans, Jess Willard would have killed Benny Leonard, so what?

    Different weight classes.
Langford was a contender at 140, 142 pounds. McFarland at his best was just a few pounds lighter.
