Ward being smacked like that in r2 just goes to show how special of a fighter Mayweather is.

People don't realize how hard countering a jab on the right side really is. But Mayweather does it regularly in his fights and rarely if ever is punished for it.

His pull counter is rarely attempted by anyone else because avoiding the jab is hard and punishing it is even harder. Ward avoided it, but couldn't punish it and got dropped.

Ward tried it and got smacked and dropped. Missed the right hand and got clipped.

Not only do you have to worry about the incoming right hand (The one Sergey threw), you also have to worry about easily missing and various other counters.

Mayweather is actually such a talent.

Also, I'd like to see stats for frequency of flash KD percentage through the divisions. It does seem though that, P4P, Floyd had a slightly superior chin.

 

May never fought a fighter in his prime with the skill, size, and power Kov has. Unless he wants to step up like Brook did.

 

I'm not talking about this post in isolation. In a broader sense, the likes of the op have a tendency to somehow manage to affliate everything skillful or something missed to something mayweather would have done or has done that a fighter has not.

Mayweather is a much better talent than Ward. I also don't think he would have stooped to his tactics in the same situation. I also think that mayweather was a much better fighter than Ward.

 

Only the great Maidana was able to land a flush power shot on his jaw. So special.
