I know that he used to spar over 200 rounds for a fight.
Funnily enoufh, for the Moore fight, he only sparred just over 80 rounds, and, according to the man himself, he felt better and stronger as a result.
I honestly think that by modern standards, Marciano actually overtrained.

Marciano training regime sounds like the old timers schedule. With 10 mile runs and a ton of sparring. Of course training months before hand.

Marciano's training regime was crazy for his era, but it would not have seemed ridiculous to guys from the turn of the century like Bob Fitzsimmons, Peter Maher, or Jim Jeffries.

    Myth or fact?

    I say probably fact.

You get standout training regimes in every sport that beggar credibility.

Did some funny old school stuff .running up very steep hills and then going down backwards then repeating over and over again hung a ball from his bedroom ceiling and would hit it when he was lay in bed .in the weeks before fights wouldn't see any one out side of his crew not even talking on the phone.

Marciano had the greatest stamina out of any heavyweight champion in history. He obviously did something nobody else was.

    That's a sweeping statement.
Did he have greater stamina than some of the old timers?
Could he in,tropical humid conditions go 26 rounds with a giant at the age of 37?
    We don't really know.
I would guess Marciano was as fit and well conditioned as any man that ever fought in the heavyweight division, did he have more stamina than the likes of Tom Sharkey ,Jim Jeffries,Muhammad Ali? Maybe , maybe not.

At the pace they fought, yes. Marciano fought at a fast pace for 15 rds. The fight wouldn't even get to 26 rds imo. What I saw from Marciano takes a lot more stamina than what I saw from the old timers.

Not all of the old fights were at a slow pace, the second Jeffries v Sharkey fight was a fast fought affair with blazing krieg lights over the ring, hung so low that they singed both men's hair. That fight went 25rds, ten more than Rocky ever fought.Ever think about the men that were fighting Rocky did they have amazing stamina too? Most of them were appreciably older yet they were very competitive?Walcott was nearly ten years older than Rocky ,yet he was in front going into the 13 th round? Did he have exceptional stamina too? How about Charles in the first fight?

Incidentally, I am an ultra-distance runner.

I am prepared to replicate anything that was claimed for Marciano by, a primary source, in terms of running.

From the little footage we have of Jeffries v Sharkey 2, the fight wasn't as fast paced as you let on. They attempt to feint each other out of position then lunge in and clinch. Nowhere near the pace Marciano fought at.

Walcott and Charles weren't known for gassing out.

His punch output in many rounds against Walcott was in the 30's. How is this a rabid, unrelenting pace?

Ike Ibeabuchi averaged 81 punches a round versus Tua.

I have heard, tho, that Marciano was the only fighter to ever train hard. True story.

The Walcott fight was Marciano's hardest fight and he was winning for a reason. I don't think I have to explain to you why Marciano's punch count was low during that fight.

At one time I put Rocky down for his lack of skill his size his opposition. I was wrong. I would not be surprised if Marciano beat most all ATG champions. The only men I have a tough time imagining he beats are Foreman and prime Tyson. His awkward but skillful style, ultra low crouch, unlimited stamina, and ko power would make for very challenging bouts for even Ali, Louis and Dempsey.

    Truth probably.
You're right, the human body can only take so much. The man retired at 32 and was pretty worn out.
