Well, I don't think David Haye's necessarily world class these days and I doubt his ability to go 5 or 6 rounds with a current top fighter but he's dangerous early and not necessarily past it.
Shannon Briggs, on the other hand, is really really bad. There's a massive difference between running around shouting "Let's Go Champ" and actually being able to slip a punch.
    He shouldn't be fighting.

Briggs says he tore his bicep in the first round, and there is a big scar there.
Take from that what you will.

His pace was really poor that fight. Bad showing for Briggs.

Well, lots of us have mocked and insulted David Haye on the internet.
Does that make a worthy opponent ?

    C'mon

Are any of us contenders for the WBA heavyweight championship belt of boxing?

And what has he done since then to convince you he's not a lumbering accident waiting to happen ?
In fact, what has he done in the last 10 years ?

He won his last 5 fights by KO.
4 in the first round, 1 in the second.
    He looks sharp. Strong puncher.
Very strong mentally, which is very important in boxing.
He's marketing himself brilliantly, he seems to be taking training very seriously.
All the pieces are coming together for him to be a live one for any opponent in the ring.

He's trying to fight the best opposition, clearly. So you can't hold that against him.

What more do you want him to do? A somersault into a cartwheel superman punch KO?

Briggs commands more money than the cannon fodder he is choosing and with Haye filling out just about every venue he fights it leaves an even bigger slice of the pie for him to take easier options...he doesnt need to take the fight when he can fight an even bigger chump and still have it move him closer to a World title fight!

No, and the WBA should be condemned for elevating men such as Shannon Briggs to such a status, and encouraging legitimate young fighters to seek a fight with him.

I'd rather he doesn't get a big fight.
I don't want to be proved right, saying "I told you so" after he gets battered dreadfully. I'd rather it just doesn't happen.

Looks like Briggs may have that very same title Haye is chasing after.
So what you're describing sounds a lot like ducking, doesn't it?

If Briggs wasn't a top 15 guy, or he was losing fights, ok, you're right. But he's doing all the right things.
