I side with whatever sport has the least politics and the best fight the best. Conor is notorious for fighting the best. Mayweather on the other hand doesn't have an at-or-near prime ATG or even mid tier let alone high tier level HOF on his resume in 19 years aka since Tupac died for example.
At this exact moment , UFC is bigger than boxing . Boxing once again lost a bunch of fans this past sat night . 4 of my acquaintances told me they are straight up done with this sport . Its dying .
They don't seem like real boxing fans then.. If a decision is made that you don't like, why quit watching the sport that entertain you? For you, me, and your friends, this is entertainment.. Those two guys will fight again, so what's the problem? I'm a bigger basketball fan than any sport and there's plenty of times when it was/looked rigged and people didn't like it.. The games were still fun to watch and was entertaining.. I just don't see the reason to miss out on entertaining fights just because your guy lost a close fight if they did or did not get the results wrong...
That goes to show you how passionate and devoted certain fans are with this sport . From everything I've read and heard, it seems people are just completely fed up .
They've been saying that for 100 years. It's not going anywhere, and no, UFC is not bigger than boxing. UFC fighters don't have the longevity required to really build the big names. It will always be the lesser of the two in regard to combat sports. The purse sizes should give you a good indication. It's not even close. I'm still waiting for a guy to get clipped the wrong way in the UFC with those gloves. Let's see how popular it is when somebody literally dies right there in the cage. It's only a matter of time. Good thing most of them are sloppy strikers.
s Boxers make more money compared to UFC fighters , sure . I was speaking of popularity , right now at this moment , UFC is clearly the more popular sport .
just sitting here laughing at people saying boxing is dead... when two superstars of the sport practically retire. boxing will do fine, it just takes years to recover. people really have no understanding of economics
It really depends on who is fighting. For example: let's just assume the 500k PPV number for Ward/Kovalev is approximately correct. What UFC cards do 500k? A million? They literally just made their highest PPV sale ever for their "Mega Fight" at 1.5 million or so. The Mega Fight in boxing (Pacquiao vs Mayweather did 4 million buys) - You can also go back and find plenty of other examples of boxing doing huge numbers via PPV. Apples and Oranges. While UFC has gained in popularity, it's not at the expense of boxing. These people enjoy an entirely different style of fight in my view. I have little interest in watching the UFC for example. I find it crude and too close to a street fight I could see at the local bar. I'm sure on the opposite end, a UFC fan may feel boxing isn't brutal enough or that "it's not a real fight."
Actually NO, Conor has a huge size advantage over his opponents with the exception of Diaz, who is top 5 out of how many lightweights in the UFC? He's like Canelo with his main advantage being his size. We know you hate Floyd, which I don't understand because I'm a fan of his and Loma. Both brilliant technicians.
i actually loathe the casual that bought pac/floyd....i listened to some of them months, a year, after "man i bought that i thought it was gonna be great such a disappointment"....the disapointment was knowing youve maybe seen one of their fights before that......if you know anything about them you knew the potential was there for it be a boring letdown......thats what i loathe about casuals...i tell them "if you follow the sport on a daily/weekly basis and get to know fighters you know what fights should produce fireworks/great fights and which ones prob wont...which ones will be chess matches....you have the same type of things happening in ufc too ya know" i absolutely loathe someone who bought floyd/pac and had no idea ward/kova was even happening...**** them
boxing still the sport of kings...a thinking mans sport...for gentlemen..... UFC is for white trash with attention span issues
I can't take a sport serious where wwe wrestlers and street fighters like Kimbo can jump right in and contend for championship belts. It's nonsense. As far as McGregor, he's already been exposed. His "skills" don't translate against bigger opponents.
I'm inclined to agree mate! Not simply because of last weekend, but i'm sick and tired of seeing peoples hard work being undone by politics. It's bull****. I am an avid boxing fan. I have been since I was a child. Growing up in a family who has boxers throughout makes it very hard to understand how this corruption continues to exist in the world we live in today. With technology, awareness and exposure, surely this **** can't continue? People say that if you are a die hard fan, you will continue to watch. Sure, we will always love the sport, but personally, I would much rather go and watch the local amateurs than watch big PPV fights now. The cherry picking that has been introduced in the last 15 years annoys the hell out of me. I'm not a big UFC fan as I love the technical make up of boxing. However, when you get Prime for Prime fighters putting titles on the line, it's hard not to get involved. This is something that boxing really lacks in the modern today. We recently had Kovalev and Ward battle for supremacy. Both fighters in the prime (or close too), willing to put their name on the line without the diva conditions many others imply. However, what happened? Controversy overshadowed the whole event. Two great fighters who made a great fight, two very different styles with two very different fight plans. Now what do we get? Controversy and bickering between fans. Sure its great to build up the rematch, but why do we have to deal with this week in and week out?
