I lost tons of respect for him. He barely threw any punches in the fight...I wonder if he took a pay off? Makes me wonder.
No payoff, he didn't have an answer for Loma's style and skill. He knew he wasn't going to win. Sucks he quit though... Loma is the real deal.
He has no heart at all, he didnt care enough to try and win. Even though he was down 7-0, a true champion would stay in there unless he was taking asevere beating which he was not besides rd 7. Alvarado is called aquitter and he took 1000x the beating against Ruslan, i mean his fking eye looked Margarito bad. Walters is a scumbag.
This fight was supposed to be great or at least competitive. Walters looked like a statue in there who refused to engage. I really, really, really question the legitimacy of this fight to begin with considering how Walters fought and in the way he quit. I honestly think the fight was fixed.
It wasn't fixed, he just tried to box with him. Just like how Canelo tried to box with Floyd. Loma likes his space, he should have developed a gameplan where he got inside and just banged at his body, easier said than done, but better thant rying to box with him ffs.
Walters had no business being on the backfoot as much as he was, but he's always liked to fight tall and impose his size on others. As you said though, executing an adjusted gameplan is easier said than done when it means you're going to eat blind countershots coming in.
Yeah, as BE said I also respected Walters as a fighter, I mean I thought Loma would school him but he usually came across classy and quite gutsy. Looks like he was one of those power punch fighters with a "bully" mentality, as soon as his punch was neutralized he just lost it mentally.
