He beats him because he was better.Three past prime fighters, two of whom were ex lightheavies, two of whom were getting on for 40, gave a prime Marciano life and death.

Liston took DeJohn's bombs,Williams bombs,Valdes' bombs. Does Liston get dropped by a 39 years old light heavyweight. Why did Duran quit with no injuries, does he lack heart?

So we pick a novice Liston who lost a split decision because he had his jaw broken early in the fight as proof that a prime Marciano beats him.How about we take a non puncher like Lastarza who many think beat Marciano and didn't get the decision, and a light heavyweight spoiler was went the distance twice with Rocky and whom many think was robbed in their first fight as proof that Liston walks though Marciano. What a crock of absolute sh*t! Liston wasn't tested much because he beat the cr*p out of people and they went down and didn't get up.Marciano ground his opponents down by a war of attrition,he was in nip and tuck wars all the time! Is that a plus? I don't think so!

Liston showed heart in loads of fights. Possibly no-one alive knows what was at play in those two fights. Marciano would simply be outgunned.

well two Can play at that. We must be fair. As impressive as it was for Liston to be fighting a relatively experienced fighter like Summerlin, On the down side, the two Summerlin decisions were very controversial and many, including the Ring correspondent, thought Summerlin won. Then there is light heavyweight Marshal (who Embrell Davison knocked out) beating Sonny Liston. It's the same, if not worse than what you are saying about Marciano v Lastarza and Lowrey!

Marciano would get busted up by the jab and flattened by power punches coming off it.

And yet LH Marshal scored a knockdown over Sonny. please be fair here.

DeJohn--sometimes looked good against 2nd stringers like Powell or Miteff but lost badly every time he stepped up and was later crushingly ko'd by both Machen and Folley.

Williams was not all that impresive against the few top men he fought. He notched up a statistically impressive record against walkovers. Liston and Satterfeild hammered him. the big cat was no greener against Satterfeild than Terrell was when Williams beat him. So they were both inconsequential defeats. Then Williams drew with Machen who Harold Johnson beat... I never understood why Sonny was able to fight so many more contenders than the supposedly avoided Williams?

Like Bert Whitehurst did? He lasted twenty rounds with Liston yet Archie Moore knocked him out.

why is Sonny so certain of flattening a guy who knocked out Archie Moore?

Doesn't matter that they were ex light heavyweights in this context.

Did Sonny even beat anyone good enough to knockout a 1951 Joe Louis?

Idk if he gets dropped by a light heavyweight with the most knockouts in history but he took the 10 count against a guy who was nowhere near the knockout artist that Marciano was.

At an age at which Rocky had been retired for at least 5 years. What an asinine point.

Rocky knocks him out mid rounds. Liston would have his moments but The Rock would overcome it and hit Liston harder than he's ever been hit in his life.
