But aren't fighters required in this situation to put on the extra weight for the bout to be sanctioned?

Do we know that Mayweather would put on the weight of he wasn't required to?

I actually never considered that Joshua, Wilder, Fury, or Ortiz' height was inaccurate.

Somehow I find this hard to believe, but sounds like you know something I don't know. What is your basis if you don't mind me asking?

You're not required to meet the weight for the weight class you are fighting in? For some reason I believed this to be the case.

So hypothetically a 150lb guy would be allowed to fight for the LHW belt if he chose to come in at 150?

    Yeah that's true.

The weight limit is a maximum.

    A 150 pound man fighting a 175 pound man I a LHW fight.

An average increase of 2.5" is big.

That's a jump pretty much as big as 130 to 154

Average height of the 130 lbs crop is 5'7.
Average height at 154 is 5'10.

Averages from the current ring top 10.

How do you see Vasyl Lomachenko doing against Lara, Alvarez and jermal Charrlol?

I had to average the heights on my own.

    I'm glad I asked, because i didn't know this
I'm surprised more fighters don't voluntarily come in lower to face bigger guys.

Unless I'm missing some obvious modern examples?

You don't think size difference is different above 200lb?
David Haye beat someone '10 weight classes' above him.

Valuev skewed the data. Without him the average height for 2010 would be just under 6'3". So the average increase would be just under 2 inches. That is not a lot for a heavyweight.

Vasyl Lomachenko is 5'6. I can imagine a 5'7 fighter fighting those guys because Alvarez is 5'7". Once the weight is the same the size difference isn't all that apparent.

He can paint it anyway he likes the most dominant era champions had height and weight for their eras. Ali , Holmes , Lewis ,Klitchkos, and current belt holders the top 2 are 6'6 and 6'7 the guy who had the belts was 6'10 ,notice the height doesn't shrink only in Tysons case post 50's. But its irrelevant because weight is more important than height ,which is vastly different than the 50's /60's era.

Got it, and you're averaging the heights of the top 10?
