I've never really watched women's boxing either.

Ann Wolfe's KO of Vonda Ward was brutal, that much is all I know really.

If you don't like it don't watch it. Hide in your cave for 25 minutes then come back out and watch either a mismatch card filler or 2 has beens trying to get that next world title shot.

I gave it a chance on Friday night and sat and watched two women fight on Friday night at an amateur championships in Glasgow- the two girls in questions- Hannah Bell and Lynn Calder put on a tremendous show and they didn't look like they lacked power. Defences were a bit leaky which made for an excellent fight with both rocking each other repeatedly throughout the fight. And they showed a million times more heart and put up with more punishment, blood, sweat and tears in 3 rounds than Nicholas Walters did last night or Spike O'sullivan did again Eubank Jnr whilst picking up fortunes.

The problem with the fight yesterday was that Taylor was light years ahead of the Pole in terms of skill and athleticism. And this is the issue that I have - I don't think the talent pool is there really and we'll see to many 1/100 mismatches. Does anyone know anything about the division she is in?

Men's boxing is mostly 1/100 mismatches, or worse.
And they will be PPV main events too, the way things are going these days.

The only real problem is the lack of depth in women's boxing. Women's MMA suffers from the same thing.

Not really. Things have changed recently at least for PBC and Matchroom with what Eddie has been saying. Last night's Matchroom card were very good match ups all round in the televised men's bouts. Point is there is so much more depth in male boxing. You might see the occasional mismatch but then as the fighters step up they will be in even bouts. In women's boxing I'm not so sure because it's such a niche sport.

Most women in general are not at all interested in boxing, and many are actively against it. Its more of a mens sport than possibly any other.

This means that we are talking about whether men enjoy watching women fight each other. Again the answer to that question is a resounding no.

Then we finally have the question about the quality of the competition and action, and because so few women would be interested in taking up boxing, we have a very small pool of fighters and a very low level of competition, even if there is the odd half decent womens figher.

Its a fail. A complete fail. But nice try, as I am sure some promoters think money can be made from a minute piece of a niche sports pie.

Why do you disrespect women? Serious question.

    Where is the disrespect?

I am clearly stating facts here, and I will make it even simpler here as to why it will not take off.

    1. Most women hate boxing.

    2. Most men out there do not like watching women fight and its mostly men who watch boxing (99%).

    3. Because so few women would ever box, the level of competition and spectacle will always be poor.

I think you are personally and emotionally invested in this debate. Perhaps because you have daughters, perhaps because you have a warped view of where womens strengths lie.

You're not stating any facts, only sweeping statements.

    1) How do you know most women hate boxing?

    2) 99%...where did you pluck this figure from, seriously?

    3) With more exposure and less prejudice towards any girl or woman who might want to box, more women will box in future, thus increasing the competition and spectacle.

Unfortunately, boxing is not unique to the lack of participation of women involved. They face it in all sports and non-sporting careers from idiotic, misogynistic men who believe that girls and women should know their place.

And yes, of course I am personally and emotionally invested in this. This has nothing to do with having a daughter. We all have girls or women in our lives whether that be our own mothers, grandmothers, aunties, wives, daughter', nieces...do you really not believe they should be entitled to pursue a career in anything they choose if they have the ability?

I think it's fairly reasonable to say that most women do not like boxing, or are at least not fans of boxing. I know some women who are big into boxing but they are a minority. Probably about 1% of females I know would even be interested in watching a fight.

How many women do you know who post on ESB? Look at Twitter trends where people talk about boxing. How many women do you see talking about it. Very few.

I accept it's a minority mate. I think a lot of women would pick and choose a fight to watch if it grabbed their imagination.

I remember my missus staying up until about 4-5am just to see Tyson get sparked by Lewis such was her hatred of him.

Katie's boxing was technically better than any males boxing last night and more entertaining. Her opponent was durable which made for a better debut spactacle than scores of the male boxers debuts I've watched over the years.

It was a great performance and any genuine boxing fan who witnessed it will look forward to seeing her box again. Fast hands, punch variety, head movement and killer instinct - what the hell is not to like about that?

If you still don't think that young lady should be boxing on the matchroom/sky platform, then you're a very sad person with major issues.

I'll agree there isn't a big female fanbase. Thats 50% of the country. If having womens boxing brings new interest from that 50% then how the **** is that a bad thing for boxing? They'll come to see the Katie Taylors of the world and slowly get into other fighters. Its a win for womens boxing and mens.
