Would a prime Roy's quickness and explosion give him a better shot than any other boxer in a bout with an mma fighter? Hypothetical question here but just thought it'd be interesting to hear some opinions.

The rules that applied and the quality of the MMA opponent would play a large part in determining the result.

No rules. Street fight. His quickness and reflexes would be hard to take him down. Plus fists flying from crazy angles. Idk Dude was god mode in his prime

I think RJJr would maneuver in such a way as to stay out of a street fight, but if some poor, dumb sumbitch (of whatever martial arts discipline or none) managed to force him to fight, said poor, dumb sumbitch would end up winning an ambulance ride and possibly a Darwin award.

Roy Jones probably has zero takedown defense. It would be very easy for an elite MMA fighter to get him on the ground.

The key word there is elite.

Against an elite level MMA guy under anything other than boxing rules and Roy is in a world of trouble.

Yeah as bad the Lomo bad chin tread, whithout rounding on the poster of the thread who I'm sure intended well, what does it matter?
As a comparison when Roy Jones was dazzling us all MMA had the likes of Butterbean providing laughs in the octagon.

Pointless thread. It would all depend on how serious Roy took MMA. If he thought he could just waltz in there and destroy with little to no cross training... Well, he'd be in for a rude awakening. But say what you want about the guy... He was a great athlete. I think he would pick up things relatively quickly IF he put his mind to it.

How difficult can it be to learn takedown defence?

Boxing has a huge amatuer system and guys that stand out at the top like Golovkin, RJJ and Floyd are truly elite athletes.

MMA will probably improve in the future but right now it's a young sport and the biggest star is a failed boxer.

Elite boxers are better athletes than elite MMA fighters in the same way football (soccer) players are better than Rugby players. The talent pool is much larger and the competition greater.

No MMA fighter ever gets anywhere near any boxer of Jones's caliber (in his prime). End of discussion.
