Conor McGregor drew twice (nearly triple) as many buys in 2016 than the entire sport of boxing

Yet people wanna try claim PPV is dead.

 

Wow, those are some crazy numbers. Goes to show that **** talking works. But at least McGregor backs it up and is not negative, he fights.

 

Couldn't care less about MMA. If I wanted to read about it, I'd go to the MMA section where this thread belongs...

 

Just like those who tuned in to Floyd - they wanna see him get beaten.

 

Goes to show the **** job the American promoters and networks are doing. Boxing has proved many times that with the right matchmaking and promotional work MMA can't keep up with it.

They've picked the wrong fighters to finance in the states, they're making the wrong fights and they're putting **** undercards together. It's no wonder boxing is sleeping over there.

I said in another thread elite fighters are getting paid too much for the poor figures they're doing. They need to take a slice of each fighters purse, stack the undercard and promote the fights much better with quality 24/7 shows, documentaries on the fighters, gloves are off shows etc. It's quite simple really. Don't know what's going on in America at the moment buy they're doing a really poor job.

 

Before we say 'Oh Floyd did more', you've got to realise this is MMA which is still a relatively new sport and to be frank, Conor's numbers even for Eddie Alvarez will probably triple Floyd-Berto, and Floyd is the most extreme example in sports history. Conor hasn't had much time to build his name - 2014/2015 is where he started to gain notoriety. Canelo for example has had years upon years.

The thing about Conor is that most people actually love the guy (yes he has strong haters), but when we watch him, we know we're watching a history maker who's ballsy.

ALSO, promoting in boxing is SO LAZY and the boxing culture is far less raw than MMA. Boxing is in a phase called Strategic Drift.

 

MMA has a loyal fanbase because the promotional companies deliver stacked competetive cards time and time again. Boxing on the other hand regularly serves up mismatches, often past their sell by date with **** undercards. It's a shame because boxing has the potential to be far bigger than MMA. They ****ed up astronomically when they weren't bothered to put a decent undercard on the May Pac fight. That was a glorious opportunity to create a new star.

 

People are not buying the Mcgregor fights for the card. The main event is what they are buying.

UFC 205 was a heavier stacked card than than 202 and 196 but the numbers look to be lower. McGregor is the draw not the card.

Its all good thinking have card where you have numerous top fighters but who's paying for this card? The purses for these fighters mean its not really an option stacking cards with multiple headliners.

 

Yeah I'm losing interest in boxing and am going over to UFC.

Wanna know why? On any random weekend check the bookmakers odds on a boxing card, compare it to a UFC card.

 

UFC's format is better than boxing.

 

Th splintered titles, the power of the alphabet organizations and this 17 weight divisions nonsense killed boxing.
People knew it was happening 30 and 40 years ago, and it only got worse.
It put off viewers and it gave promoters and managers opportunity to keep the top fighters away from each other.
The long term harm is obvious.

Boxing cant be booked like UFC as its not a promotion with one boss and one matchmaker. The UFC format should see more 50/50 fights simply because they are in a position which allows it to happen.

Boxing has no star right now. Why don't we mention in the last 2 years a boxing fight draw twice as much as mcgregor's fight.

It's ok guys... Boxing is not going to die. Boxing is a difficult sport because it has no icon, it's just "boxing"
We just have to wait until the next name arises. More than likely Canelo or Joshua.

Also, lets also mention if Canelo and GGG both fight twice before their showdown in september, it will be a fight that does mcgregor numbers.
