Conor McGregor drew twice (nearly triple) as many buys in 2016 than the entire sport of boxing

I know, boxing right now won't have what the UFC does, but what the UFC does is better for the fanbase. Honestly I think the best thing for boxing to do right now is to have more fights like Thurman vs Porter on network tv and build stars like that.

 

It's because Conor is a great marketer....and delivers the goods. Unfortunately an empty barrel
makes the most noise. And he's a very loud barrel. There is no one out there in boxing like
Conor.

 

Boxing is healthy when it has several "star" fighters, not just one.

 

One issue on the topic of MMA vs Boxing: UFC is a much better promoter of the sport. And it's got a young
management team. Note that the Loma-Walters bout was promoted by Bob Arum, who is 85 years old.
Does anyone think Arum truly understands 21st century social media forms? He probably thinks email
is something new.

Seriously though, I have to credit UFC for placing a high priority on identifying and fixing some of the boxing problems that were alienating fans. It's not a perfect promotion by any stretch, but they successfully figured that out.

 

That I agree with and that's why I think Matchroom over here in the UK do so well. Eddie Hearn is always on twitter and youtube. He doesn't stop promoting on social media.

The statistics are not completely comparable UFC cards are much better stacked than boxing cards, The fans are pay for an enjoy the undercard's a hell of a lot more than boxing fans, Most boxing undercards on PPV events are poor the majority of the fights nobody really cares about were in the UFC the under cards are always still very exciting to watch even if the people fighting are not well known.

 

In US boxing it is.

 

Without a star yes. That's no different to wrestling or UFC. PPV needs stars. The model isn't broken it's just boxing doesn't have that star attraction.

 

It's partly the promoters fault and partly HBO/Showtime's. Boxing needs to get back on regular cable, and better than the way PBC was trying. You need a big platform like one of the major stations to build interest and promote a ppv. Boxing is not advertized almost at all.

Put Conor in a street fight with Christopher Livingstone Eubank Jr and he will be a puddle of blood

 

You see tons of one sided beat downs in the UFC the commentators just scream how scary the winner is and their WWE fan base eats it up like the witnessed history
