You do what I meant was the fights are seen as 50/50 or close beforehand.

 

The heavyweight division has been in decline for the last 20 years.
When a fighter as dreadful as Charles Martin can be advertised as "the world heavyweight champion" and paid millions to "defend his title" against a promising hyped 15-0 prospect on PPV there's something seriously wrong with the sport.

Let's just bullet some of the reasons that boxing is not ahead of UFC in terms of big card numbers:

* Too many belts, no collaboration between belts to agree on one true champion.
* Too many champions are allowed to duck the best challengers for years, and too many top contenders frozen out.
* Too much judging corruption and no route to correct clearly corrupt judging cards
*A complete lack of commercial accumen on the part of the boxing organisations, due to lack of clear leadership.

Its an old sport that needs a revolution.
Back to one belt per weight class.
Best contender must fight champion in 12 month period.

 

That can be corrected by going back to one belt per weight class.

That is where most of boxings issues stem from. Too many boxing organisations and too many joke titles.

 

Neither Canelo or Joshua is going to be the next big name in boxing. Neither is American and only an American superstar can generate the type of star power needed to carry the sport. Manny was an anomaly and part of his popularity was the looming threat to Floyd which people were clamouring for.

 

I dont think one belt would be a good idea. Id like to see two belts per division. ONe is the world championship and one could be the JR. World championship. To get a shot at the title you have to win the JR. World championship and defend it atleast once but not more than twice or you relinquish the title and must regain it to have any shot at the title. The champion will fight twice a year one of which being a mandatory vs the JR. World championship. When that fight happens you have the two top contenders as the co main event fighting for the JR. World championship title. Id have same day weigh ins and 5 lbs rehydration limits and cut the sport down to 10 weight classes. Gone would be the days where guys like Berto,Guerrero,Maidana,Ortiz can call themselves champions by beating some second rate fighters. Under my system youd have to earn that title.

 

UFC is what Haymon was trying to do with Boxing make a company promote all His fighters win or lose the champion He wins. Too much protection in boxing with many promoting companies trying to win a not let the other company take His share. That's the problem with competitive matches of UFC with mismatches of boxing, still think that the lack of talent and payment in UFC is making those fights competitive and fun to watch.

 

And boxing keeps pushing PPVs

 

Another thing with the UFC is that there is a purpose to the fights. No 9 fights No 8, that sort of thing.

In boxing they titillate the fans with a future match up and then fight bum after bum.

UFC fighters are also way more accessible than boxers. Fans get to know the fighters and as a result will back them and buy the shows

I think that's what I said in my original post. People were saying it was destroying boxing 30 years, perhaps 40 years ago, and it's only gotten worse.

 

People have already called it. UFC's format is better. They stack an event with at least 2 to 3 good fights. But you can do that when you pay your fighters sheet. Also MMA is for people who are more ADHD. It provides cheap thrill entertainment that's easily user friendly for a casual to pick up on. Boxing takes awhile to pick up on and is more acquired taste.

 

Boxing has too many overrated bums like Joshua or Wilder, too many unfair/controversial decisions, and too many cowards, it needs real men.

 

The sport of MMA is different too. Way too unpredictable. The level of skill and expertise is just much lower, anyone can lose on a bad day. Even if you are an elite expert in say jiu jitsu all it takes for you to lose is some former high school wrestler stopping you from taking the fight to the ground and beating you with sloppy telegraphed overhands.

UFC is basically like putting a bunch of club fighters to fight each other and then promoting the living **** out of their fights and creating some sort of drama. It's good if you want some exciting crazy 50-50 fights, but it doesn't offer the deep technical and strategic mastery that many boxers posses.

Even if we would get all the match ups we want in boxing there wouldn't be as many 50-50 fights on the top level as there are in MMA. You're not beating guys like Loma or Floyd via lucky punch while in MMA even their ATGs lose against journeymen who land a lucky punch or a lucky submission.

 

since there are so many variables in MMA the chances of losing is higher, same with Muay Thai kickboxing.
