There's a lot of utterly clueless people on these forums when it comes to MMA (and boxing), even in stand up Conor would win, his kicks, knees and elbows would be too much for GGG. Of course GGG would have absolutely no TD defense as well.
I am a huge Golovkin fan, but he would lose against Connor in the octagon, sorry, ppl who think otherwise dont know fighting. Look at boxers who tried to start a career in K1, they mostly failed. And dont give me the Vitali can kickbox shiit, he would have been killed by a small Andy Hug in K1. And I am a huge Vitali fan!
I couldn't agree with you more. GGG wouldn't stand a chance in the octagon. What kills me about boxing fans is the manner in which the exaggerate they complexities of a very simple sport. There is only a limited amount of punches available in boxing. In mma there are hundreds if not thousands of martial art techniques, yet somehow boxing is the more technical sport.
MMA fighters mostly get knocked out with punches more than anything. Plus Conor used simple takedown d vs a guy with a black belt in bjj and experienced wrestler yet had no IDEA of real defensive boxing strategy which could be adopted in MMA...Umm...like a philly shell defense... Blocking McGregors left with his elbow whilst closing the distance for a takedown... Umm... he couldn't even take down Conor... lol Atleast guys like Dominick Cruz understand how to use head movement in UFC to their advantage... Eddie Alvarez on the other hand was an overhyped, shaky chinned bum who threw some wild ass punches leaving himself WIDE OPEN each time for McGregor to land the same punch catching him every time. Pretty much every current champion either has the best hands in their division or are top 5. Stipe- best HW boxer IMO. If you say JDS I won't disagree. Cormier- underrated hands. If Rumble becomes next champ it will be via his hands. Bisping- hate the guy but his boxing is the best in the division. Very technical, good footwork and defense. That's the only way he was able to beat Rockhold (his boxing). Woodley- heaviest hands in the division for sure. McGregor- his boxing is his best weapon. Cruz- excellent overall in terms of all the skills associated with boxing. Hands, head movement, footwork, defense. Top 2 contenders also have good hands(Garbrandt and TJ). Certain kinds of boxers imo can transition over to UFC. The guys like the Mayweathers, Toneys, Crawfords,...etc.. would get wrekt.... Rumble Johnson's losses are all submissions losses basically... He's an animal in standup, though. He has big power in his hands... Khabib would beat Golovkin in the Octagon for sure... Not so sure McGregor would, though. I think he's kinda over hyped sort of like how Dos Anjos was at 155lbs. It's just Dana White lies constantly about how good these fighters are. Also... the spinning back fist is one of the most ineffective punches in UFC if you miss... even then if you land it's largely inaccurate... Of course if you're a glass jawed bum you'll go down even by a telegraphed one which can be seen a mile away... lol Also... takedown d is ONE of the easiest things to learn... Like you mma bums who've never actually even been in a cage think its so damned hard.. It isn't... It really is not... There's only a small amount of guys with elite level BJJ in the UFC anyway. If you want refinement you'd have to watch an eddie bravo invitational or something like that. Demian Maia is the best at bjj in UFC no doubt. Ferguson has high level BJJ and he's beastly with his brabo choke... but, he's very open in standup to punches... There's only a small amount of guys who are high level wrestlers also. Umm... The bum Chad Mendes, Daniel Cormier who is good, and Khabib Nurmagomedov... The guys like Rumble are taking them out with power alone... Rumble is very poor on the ground...

It is a simple sport compared to mixed martial arts. There is an infinite amount of move sets in mma. Since it's a combination of all fighting styles, doesn't it stand to reason it is more complex? So Mercer got lucky against an out of shape Sylvia. Hang on to that fluke, but also remember Mercer curling up in the fetal position against Kimbo of all fighters. And then throw in Masato's destruction of Vince Phillips in under 4min. Phillips left with a fractured arm. Tough guy Mayorga was owned by an ordinary opponent not that long ago.
Stand up GGG would struggle with leg kicks. There usually the hardest thing to deal with if you haven't got a few years conditioning in your legs Punches, high kicks and elbows arnt really going to factor too much with GGG as his striking is elite and so is his chin. He can see high high kicks like anyone else. McGregor wdnt get close enough to drop elbows or his head wd be taken off. In reality mcgregor wd throw few leg kicks go for take town and submit in seconds. If mcgregor tries to be brave standing for more than 30 sec he's gonna be rinsed. Anyone saying McGregor nhas no ground game is having a laugh. Go and try and roll with a low level bbj guy. Feels like your drowning. Conor will be super elite on the floor with GGG.
Exactly. Top flight boxers dont dare step into the ring with prime Muay Thai fighters for fear of getting smashed by elbows and knees, getting owned in stand up grappling and chopped down - all legal in Muay Thai. If boxers won't step up to even that broader set of stand up striking format then do the math. The trolls need to see a bit more of the world of combat sports - possibly by removing their head out of their arse.
