I remember in the early 1980s Cyril Smith being quite well-known on the children's TV circuit.
I was about 10 years old watching him on Saturday morning kid's TV or guesting on Newsround or Blue Peter or whatever it was, thinking who's this funny fat man? I knew he was a politician, and being fat seemed to be his gimmick. Didn't make much sense beyond that why he'd be on kid's TV.

Lewis deserves to be knighted more than the motley crew of insipid pop entertainers who have received the honor already...I mean, has Boy George been knighted yet? The Spice Girls? The Pet Shop Boys?
I think racism has something to do with it.

Knighthoods and all this other pompous crap mbe's obe's are a joke. Who needs some daft award which means nothing.
I would tell Lizzy like others have No Thanks love shove it up your ass. The sooner the better England gets rid of these toffy nosed upper class buffoons who think a hard days work is reading the Times then spending the morning shooting and swigging sherry then the afternoons bedding their relations and the evening at some ballet or opera not being able to understand a word but showing their face with the other Cuthbert's and Josephine's to talk about how their going to have a bet on Uncle Cyrils horse but only a mild £10k as mamma and papa didn't give them all this money to gamble with. And then spend their last hour of the day at home dressed in baby clothes having their anuses destroyed by an orange.
English snobs are the scum of the earth and should be weaned away to history.

It probably has more to do with his stance against the second Iraq war.

Many people were against it, but it probably had more to do with who was up for an honour at the time.

The Balir Government was in power when Lewis retired, and the battle lines were fairly firmly drawn on the issue.
Lewis took a strong stance against the war, rightly in my opinion.

That would have made it hard for the government that was being heavily condemned on the issue, to publically offer him a knighthood.

He might have told them to **** off.

I think candidates are approached on the sly to make sure they won't say no before it's announced.

Benjamin Zephaniah publically declined an OBE.

It might be different for knighthoods.

Either way, I respect Lewis more for his stance, than for being Sir Lennox!

Agreed. In the staggeringly unlikely event I was selected I think I'd do the same.

I'm not sure I'd tell anyone though, I think Zephaniah broke ranks there.

If you ever had to deal with these idle rich snobs you would understand me.
If you haven't then your world is a better place and prey it stays that way.
I have dealt with a few in my career and everyone is a spoilt obnoxious way out of touch with real life huge bottom burp.
I pains me when I see other countries thinking the majority of England is built of these sherry swigging plums in the mouth sphincters.
I know if your from Liverpool you have a scouse accent Birmingham the slow brummy accent etc etc but where does that plums in the mouth snob accent come from? no part of the uk as far as I know it is just put on snobbery which makes me puke.
    Rant over. Peace.
