McGregor won't be boxing anyone. He is just going to use this as a bargaining chip for his next UFC contract. The UFC can ill afford to have their pinup boy toyed with by a boxer. It would set the UFC cause back 20 years. So when McGregor renegotiates mid-next year the sky's the limit. The UFC need to apply a 24 carrot golden handcuff. They have little choice.
He fights at lightweight currently which is 155 lbs. He's a southpaw counterpuncher with solid power in his left hand. Primarily a striker, but his hand skills aren't up to top level pro boxing standards. If I'm not mistaken he has already had a few boxing matches in his lifetime.

McGregor has also applied for a boxing license in Nevada. This has been confirmed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) executive director Bob Bennett. However, due to the fact that McGregor has not yet paid the $75,000 fine imposed on him by the NSAC in October, nor produced an anti-bullying PSA as instructed, he has yet to be granted a boxing license by them.
This is just a publicity stunt and probably driven by Dana White and UFC. I've read stories about McGregor looking very crude and unskilled when he's sparred with pure boxers and he would maybe take care of some journeymen, but that's about it.
Saw a rumour on twitter hes fighting Malignaggi, not sure of its veracity though. If he wants to be embarrassed and get his ears boxed off, then let him
I'm sure that is just a lie/joke. Conor is under contract by the UFC currently so unless he wants to get sued for competing then it is not happening. It is unlikely that his contract allows him to take part in a boxing match.
I remember some video, and I might be wrong on this so take it with a pinch of salt, I definitely won't find a source, it was just in some random vid. But apparently he once went to some boxing gym and pretty much everyone used to boxed his ears off there.
