They're generally quite lazy once they achieve a minimum standard of living. They are happy with a middle class 2 BR flat, simple average used Japanese car and a nice Cuban girlfriend. Plus some money to send to relatives to Cuba. Achieve more? They generally don't want to live to work but just work enough to live.
I'm not a Wilder fan but I'd pick Wilder every day of the week to beat Ortiz. Malik Scott rocked Ortiz, and its very embarassing Ortiz didn't get him out of there... ALL the top heavyweights would have got Scott out of there.
Surely a more rational explanation would be that until recently pro boxing was banned in Cuba so there was - again until recently - no pathway and few role models. There's a direct link between countries where pro boxing is most popular and the number of fighters who originate from these places, so it stands to reason in a country where it was once banned, the number of boxers succeeding in the pro ranks would be smaller. The failures stand out in our minds because the overall number of professional Cuban boxers is still relatively small when placed in a historical context. Let's reassess in 10-15 years before labeling an entire nation 'lazy'...
Sorry, you got a point. I should have said "The Cuban athletes are generally quite lazy". Of course I didn't mean to generalize over their entire population. Just the socialist sports development program in Cuba didn't produce amateurs who were able to translate to the professional ranks with a good working ethic. It produced people who're happy with delivering 90% as long as it pays the bills for their middle class lifestyle in the free world.
does cst favor there side now? is intentionalbutt a fair moderator now? cst is actually defending willis now, this is crazy
I guess going forward we're going to see a lot more Cuban professionals and champions. The boxing pedigree is there, that's for sure....
they don't transition to the pros well for how many top rated heavyweights thye have in the ams they should have had a t least 1 or 2 pro heavyweight world champ by now Solis, Gomez, Perez , & Ortiz ( so far) were all good amateurs yet have failed to win pro world titles at heavyweight. Some of the reasons for this have been highlighted in the thread, They have failed so far.
Cuban glass is another legit reason ...they don't tend to have good chins when they take the headguards off... Pero is their top super heavyweight in the amateurs currently for example and he has a terrible chin, he wouldn't make it to the top of the pros with that chin no way.
