Consequently, the first 4-6 rounds would be an excellent display of technical skill and athleticism. I would not be surprised if it was 3-3 after 6. In the second half of the fight, however, Lomachenko, who is much better defensively, would oupoint the Cuban to earn a competitive decision.
I'd day Loma in a decent fight. Love this one... I think Gambos would have success but I think his career is flatlining now which is a shame but they are on two different trajectories and Loma is heading for the stratosphere. Gamboa is actually in the Rigo, Loma league of talent but is tainted a little with the drugs thing and the Crawford loss which may have ended any chance of him becoming a serious force again. Salido who fought and dropped Gamboa said that a one fight pro Loma is the best pure boxer he has faced.
gamboa is better than anyone loma has ever faced amateur or pro, and legitimately could outpoint loma, he's faster and has the style to do it, let's not forget what happened vs salido! It would be a close fight i think but don't write gamboa off
You're preaching to the choir, man. I am a huge Gamboa fan. He's a terrific fighter. And yes, I do remember the Salido fight in which Gamboa dropped the Mexican multiple times en route to a wide UD. I also remember Salido dropping the Gamboa late in that fight and landing more than he did on Lomachenko. Gamboa might have faster hands, but the Ukrainian has faster feet, better all-around footwork, and is much more difficult to hit. Offensively, I give the edge to Gamboa. Defensively, however, I give Lomachenko a significant advantage. Yet, Gamboa is easier to hit clean and that, in my opinion, would be the difference in the fight. Lomachenko by 115-113.
This. Gamboa's years with 50 ruined him. He looked completely shot against Crawford. His hand and foot speed was gone.
doesn't mean anything most people are under the illusion that gamboa is shot and done, and to inactive, but he is a very very very live opponent in there with lomachenko, that's if loma would even take it, arum will probably protect him from gamboa, they already blocked the fight once, maybe if gamboa picks up a belt, but if it happens alot of posters here will be shocked at the outcome

gamboa as been a complete let down I was really looking forward to his career but loma is doing more with his and in a lot shorter time lomo > gamboa and it pains me to say but its the truth lomo of now toys with the gamboa of today cheers 50 pence
Too much is made of the Salido fight. Those who use it as an argument for Gamboa over Loma never mention that when he fought Loma, Salido failed to make weight. He was said to be as much as 147 on fight night. It's not that Salido misjudged his weight, it was intentional to come in big. The question is, why did he feel it necessary to do so? Well beating Loma has made his name way bigger than keeping hold of the belt, so-much-so people are still talking about him. Job done. To make fair comparisons we also have to look at how Gamboa coped with Crawford at super featherweight. Now clearly Crawford is a better talent than Salido but the point is, both Loma and Gamboa took losses when fighting in a higher weight class (at the time of the fight). Also does anyone seriously think Salido would trouble Loma now, assuming they both make weight? There was a certain arrogance about Loma taking that fight in only his 2nd bout; he's a more experienced and rounded pro now and would deal with Salido handily in a rematch. The bottom line is, Loma vs Gamboa would be a great match-up and let's hope it gets made. But for the reasons already outlined in previous posts, I favour Loma.
I get it. Loma is the next big thing, and rightfully so. He's got the style I love, and willingness to fight the best, especially early in his career. But Gamboa is legit. He's beaten Salido, and other fighters while losing to the best guy from 140 down in exciting fashion! Gamboa is a warrior with a high ring IQ, And shouldn't be taken lightly when talking about fantasy fights. Hopefully this fight will mean more than fantasy and happen, but no way will Loma beat Gamboa easily....no way.
