6oz Gloves Dempsey takes it hands down. He might get off the floor to do it though.. 10oz gloves it could be a very close fight. So much of what "Jack the giant killer" had going for him against big men was greater talent, greater speed and consistent pin point accuracy. Landing first. Crucially, He needed those gloves to even up the balance in size. And so would anyone.
None of that makes any sense and I dare anyone to agree that a shorter Lewis would be more effective against anyone with the style he uses.. complete garbage once again!
Good lord, man. The ONLY thing Carpentier had was the power in his right hand. He rocked Dempsey with a right to the jaw in the second. Dempsey was previously content to carry the hopeless Frenchman but then turned on the gas and bore through him. And Gibbons was NOT a big man. And Firpo KD'd Dempsey. How did he not land on him like Carp? Where do you get this stuff?
Dempsey could've ended the Carpentier fight in the first when he was lifting him off the ground with body shots. He then let Carpentier back into the fight, which was a mistake because Georges got pretty damn busy. Dempsey didn't seem to mind. And then he ended it in the 4th.
This is a tough one. If I had to bet on it I would have to take Sonny Liston based on his size, power and that ability to set up that power with his jab. That jab alone was a power shot. I can`t discount Dempsey`s chances I wouldn`t count him out or say he can`t win. He was an explosive puncher. When you have two heavyweghts that can punch it could go either way and maybe would be a series of fights. If my $ was on the line I would go with Liston.
I was lying then, today I'm telling the truth!lol I haven't made a pick here ,just filtering the arguments as they are presented.
Liston would beat him like a drum. I appreciate Dempsey but he's just overmatched here. He never fought ANYTHING close to Liston. You can't say the same vice versa.
Your first posts on this forum were promising ,unfortunately they seem to have gone steadily downhill lately. The last few efforts have been on the border of trolling.
No he'd just wipe him out with uppercuts instead, all that bobbing and weaving didn't help Patterson.
Only a troll would deny Dempsey was not getting out pointed before his knock out blow win against Carpentier . You also failed to answer the question but you then said Dempsey was your favourite fighter so we'll leave it at that because then it forces you to rethink things here. I see you are quick to jump on Marciano as well to the point where what you post is actual trolling so you should use that word cautiously when accusing someone else of mere postings .
Gibbons was not bigger than i thought ,which only reinforces my statement that Firpo was the best BIG man Dempsey had fought . You can perceive the fight any way you like ,Dempsey had trouble landing on the quicker more elusive fighter throughout the 4 rnd ,and the much smaller man obviously slowed down a bit late in the 4th . However Dempsey had his head snapped back multiple times by uppercuts and over hand rights ,if you also wish to believe Dempsey LET him do that ,better you than me. Firpo knocked Dempsey down because he hit harder than Carpentier ,it doesnt mean he was out pointing him as a matter of fact he was getting battered . Are you sure im not the one watching these fights ? smh "Even aside from my own efforts, my reputation was taking on great proportions. Georges Carpentier had received such a build-up, and had been so popular, that by defeating him I came to be regarded as being better than had been supposed. By beating a popular idol I had become more favorably known than by overwhelming giant Jess Willard, whom people cared less about." J. Dempsey
