btw, I wonder why Ali didn't use this "karate" stuff against Frazier in their battles?

Maybe he just forgot to use it, right?

    lol.

You speak from opinion, i speak from fact and able to do so because I was at the Ali event..it was explained to me by others how he developed the punch and concept.

"I saw the punch. It couldn't have crushed a grape."

Jimmy Cannon, sportswriter who was at ringside.

    "Keep your mouths shut"

Ali's first words to his attendants after the fight.

(NOT suggesting Ali was in on anything. He was probably as bewildered as anyone.....he knew it wasn't a true power punch.)

Was the Foreman knock out a fix too? did he hit him going backward with that type of punch? I can tell you he hit liston with it, them old timers didn't know better and still don't today. Could he get up? For sure. He used that punch many times dodging backwards ,to know the mechanic from an anchor punch to a regular jab you need to know the differences.

If you don't believe it a real punch go watch Anderson Silva k.o high lites.

Red Smith from ringside! Ever read about an anchor punch used by Jack Johnson? I've read every biography on him and never found a mention of this punch in his repertoire! If he had used it why on earth would he teach it to an old time Uncle Tom comedian such as Stepin Fetchit? Gullible Gaviscon.

In the immediate post-fight interview Ali was asked what was the punch that punch Liston down.
He replied "a left hook or a right cross" ......

Ali was very fast in that fight. He had improved. it was only a matter of time. Sonny was just out of his depth, it wasn't going to be Listons night what ever he brought because Ali just has his number. Sonny was in shape but Ali was just too keen for Sonny.

There were a lot of opinions on that punch, many from guys that actually had experience of giving and taking punches, but you chose to only quote one sportswriter, who happened to despise Ali?

Red Smith was together with Cannon the most notorious Ali hater of all sports writers.

But Ali definitely wasn't impressed by Liston's antics on the floor. That much is certain.

As for the punch being enough to produce a flash knockdown, I don't see why not. It had more leverage than the right at 7:40 imo for example:

That's what Smith said and he was in the press row so near enough to hear it.I don't think him recounting the story reflects badly on Ali at all,I've never thought he was ,"in", on whatever went down.
I would agree, a flash knockdown was entirely possible, but that's the extent of the damage I would expect from the blow.
