Do you think it will be a step back to keep him busy or will it be BIG? Vargas would give him another title but it won't be that competitive. Pac is something I can't get my head around... After the way he took apart Walters I'm not sure where he goes. Many fighters will be reticent to get in the ring with him. He made Russel and Walters look foolish. Gamboa is a good call. Vargas would be fun. Would love to see if he wins the rematch Frampton move up next year for a crack!
I'm thinking this too. I really think he wants to avenge that 'loss' and show everybody he's levels above Salido. They just need to make sure they have a good ref in there this time. Loma will box Salido's head in.
I actually don't like to see a fighter that on his way up go back to a fighter that he has beaten along his way. I think that every fight that Loma fights should be a step forward unless the public demands dictate that he fight a once beaten rival. Once he gets to the division that he wants to establish himself in then clean that out and that frees him up to pick and choose who he fights. It's called paying your dues.
He's right now in arguably the deepest division in boxing (with feasible and absolutely mouth-watering fights with the likes of Vargas, Salido, Farmer, Sosa, Corrales, Pedraza, Davis, Berchelt and Miura), why should he leave it for a category in which the quality is clearly lower (I'd accept a move-up in weight only if he faces someone like Garcia, and exclusively in case of a convincing win of Mikey against the tough Zlaticanin)?
I'd be pretty annoyed if he stayed at LW. He's not going to be as good there, just too small. His opponents will rehydrate to 150lbs and he'll be 138 with a frame meant for the FW divisions. I just want to see him take on Gamboa, Salido, Vargas, Corrales-Uchiyama winner, Miura and Davis. Move up to LW when he's around 31 for a couple of years (fight Conlan and Stevenson eventually) then have an ambitious fight at 140 before retiring.
I don't even think a blind ref could save Salido in their rematch. I think Loma learned too much during their first encounter.
With Vargas, Miura, and Berchelt all tied up on the same HBO card in January that really narrows down the list of possible options for Lomachenko's next fight. Guys like Coralles, if he wins in a few weeks and has been mentioned by Arum before, and Sosa whose been on HBO before and holds a title are possibilities. We could also get someone coming out of left field like someone with Haymon such as the Frampton-Santa Cruz winner. But I think the clear front runner to face Lomachenko next has to be Salido.
