McGregor wouldn't even get close to top 10 in his own country, let alone the world. There's no shame in that - none of the top 10 boxers in his weightclass would beat him in a MMA fight.

While he obviously holds a background in striking, I'm not too sure it can translate into boxing effectively. He can throw counterpunches and he's got a good left hand, but his overall stance and position from how he throws his punches wouldn't work in a boxing setting. it's just two totally different sports.

I can't imagine he'd have any success taking on any top 10 caliber fighter around WW to MW. I'd also imagine most of the top 10 guys in each of those 3 divisions would knock him out inside the final bell. He can't just get a boxing license and assume he'll have success in boxing because of his past success in combat sports. It's apples and oranges.

Conner is a little different then most MMA champions in that striking is his primary skill but his kicks set up his strikes. Oh he could spar in boxing rules and perhaps get a lot better. The biggest problem is that in boxing you use up energy throwing a lot of punches In MMA you use up energy defending against the take down or the control by the other fighter . He would have to get used to throwing a bunch of combinations an output of around 100 per round. It is difficult to do that. Just like for a boxer going in to an MMA match reducing your punch output and defending against the other things like takedowns and kicks etc. Or just basically grabbed and controlled

Jumped in on last page; did anyone actually say yes to this question? I actually like MMA as well and have no axe to grind with it in relation to boxing but the mere folly of this question is an obvious NO to me.

McGregor has such a lousy ground game that I bet there are boxers who could outwrestle him. LOL

I honestly question one who does ask this rhetorical question. now if ones asking if he had a chance at say a golden gloved tourney if he dedicated himself for a few years to strictly boxing, that's something I'd have to think about and see more true sparring from him, with true boxers

His timing and reflexes look way below average. It works for him at MMA but with these fundamentals he'd get clowned by random club fighters in boxing.
