That wasn't the real Kirk Johnson Vitali beat. Kirk's fire for the game was extinguished when he was robbed of the WBA title by Joe Cortez bias & John Ruiz academy award winning acting. Kirk turned up purely for the check Face it a barely 80 % ready Lennox took on his #1 contender on 10 days notice & nearly took his face off. Imagine what a 100% Lennox would do Vitali ought to thank him for retiring LOL
A right hand from Lewis opened a grotesque cut over Klitschko's left eye in the third round. Dr. Paul Wallace, the ringside physician, told the referee to stop the fight after the sixth round due to the cut over Klitschko's left eye. Klitschko required 60 stitches to repair four cuts on his face and one cut in his mouth. Lewis defeated Klitschko TKO6. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:596265
Well C.J.Rock I wish we would have gotten the oppurtunity to see it. I had Vitali beating Lennox at the stoppage and on that note Lewis should have given him the rematch, but instead retired. That just looks bad, winning on a technicality like that And Not Offering A Rematch To Set Things right...... what's your comeback to that?
Lewis' connection rate in that fight was stupendous, looking at that link. Nearly one in every two found the target. Compubox should have done a special break down of punches to the left eye....
Old Lennox was competitive with prime Vitali and landed legit shots that led to a legit stoppage. People act like Vitali slipped on a foreign object and smashed his face into the ring post. If the punch that split Vitali skin was 'lucky' then pretty much every one punch KO in history should be considered lucky too. Anyway... Lewis will be remembered as a far greater fighter than either Klitschko. He'd have KO'd Wlad pretty easily IMO. He's all wrong for him.
Although I don't dispute Vitali was rightly ahead on the cards and would have gone on to take the belt, you'd have a helluva job coming home from the fight to convince the wife this guy was winning.... http://static.boxrec.com/4/48/Klitschko_After_Lewis.jpg
But he still should have gave Vitali the rematch. If Lewis was winning the fight at the time of the stoppage then I can see why Lennox would choose to retire. But since Vitali was winning and though the cut was caused by a punch, still as well as he performed in that fight, he should have been granted the rematch. It would have done big numbers on PPV I think.
