Rocky Marciano v Sam Peter

Who the hell did Peter even knock out to build up this reputation he has? In which fight of his does he display this vaunted punching power? He hit Wlad with an awful amount of flush shots and couldn't hurt him. (disregarding the KDs which were illegal shots and the last one a balance issue)

He couldn't stop James Toney who was a natural MW. And I'm not sure people are aware of this, but Jeremy Williams is not Rocky Marciano.

This size crap goes too far. Step inside a ring with a 90 kg man and see if you can "brush off" his punches. This is just a case of a very, very mediocre big man losing to an excellent smaller man. And nothing else.

 

Who did Marciano knock out to build his reputation as a hard puncher? Bums, washed up fighters, and blown up LHWs? I bet Marciano wouldn't have been able to KO any of the guys Peter did, while Peter would look like George Foreman if he fought the guys Marciano did.

 

Of course he would, he wouldn't even had struggled with anyone ,but maybe Walcott a bit.

 

Peter would knock out all of the guys he listed, and in brutal fashion.

I'm not a fan of Layne's but it should be noted that 15 of his 17 losses happened after Marciano had ruined him, in fact he had only lost one fight when he fought Rocky.

 

Jersey Joe Walcott is a better win than anyone on Peters resume tenfold. As is Charles, Louis and Moore.

You're talking about washed up fighters, Peters best win was a morbidly obese middleweight and a 39 year old glass-jawed bum who spent more time with his face on the canvas than his feet.

This is bordering on delusional. Again, all of you "size" warriors should get in a ring with a 190 lb man and see how little and weak he is. Back before a zillion weight classes existed you had smaller guys beating up on bigger ones all the time.
I mean, we're not putting Rocky up against Lewis here. It's Sam friggin Peter. A guy who never beat ANYONE of note. A guy who went life and death with men of Rockys size, like Toney and Chambers. Just a fat dude with an overrated punch.

 

Why do you keep bringing up Valuev, as if he has any relevance to this discussion?

No I posted it to you because you questioned Peters opposition . The quote is to show Marcianos own opposition was poor.

 

He is demonstrating that size while important, isn't the be all and end all ,talent is necessary to prevail, lots of huge men were not big punchers. lots of nondescript, average sized guys were tremendous hitters.

 

You're the delusional one if you think Peter wouldn't have knocked out all of those guys.
