In terms of anger and ferocity, there hasn't been anybody like that since. Never met the guy but he's definitely a different kind of person.

I fully agree that he was special.
In terms of anger and ferocity, IMO only Jack Dempsey can be compared to Tyson

    Nigel Benn was ferocious.
A contemporary of Tyson's, and a fan of his too.

There are probably lots of others who had the ferocity. But they very rarely have the refined skills and/or the chin to make that style pay for them.
That's what makes guys like Tyson and Benn special, the fact that they could impose that intense aggression on good fighters with such success.

    Agreed.

What made Benn special was that he was so ferocious, yet so vulnerable. But when he was at his most vulnerable it was there that he was most dangerous!

Gets an absolute SHELLACKING from Logan (eats something like THIRTY UNANSWERED PUNCHES) and then BOOM! ONE left hook from hell to end it!

Benn and Tyson were must-see TV back then. They don't make them like that anymore.

This might be a little off topic but I wish we could get a Boxer here in the US with that kind of hype again. A heavyweight champion that's a household name. It's been too damn long

That's a key difference between Benn and Tyson. Tyson wasn't vulnerable like Benn but he wasn't half as dangerous as Benn when hurt.....

    Agreed.

To have Benn in trouble was a double-edged sword.

On the one hand it's good because you're on your way to getting an absolute animal out of there, but on the other hand you're on the way to getting laid out.

It's a matter of time before another true ATG holds the hwt championship. It's been so long since a truely great fighter held the championship.

I sincerely hope that this "prophecy" will be fulfilled. The current heavyweight acenario is pretty mediocre.....

How could you call him an ATG if he's beating bums......

I think that if he had the right temperament, he would have been comparable to Louis and Ali in terms of success.
