If clinching was more harshly punished, how does HW history change?

As the title suggests, what major differences would occur?

I think Johnson would struggle as clinching was a large part of his game. But with his speed advantage I think he'd overcome it.

Ali probably doesn't beat Frazier in the rematch.

Lewis has an harder time with Holyfield and maybe doesn't beat him.

Wlad loses to Peter and never becomes a great champion.

Look what happened to Ruiz when he was forbidden from using his mauling tactics against Roy Jones.. He got soundly out boxed.
Watch the ref come into Wlads corner during the Brewster fight and told him another hug and push wouldn't be tolerated.
Result = stoppage loss a few rounds later.

With neutral refs Wlad would have had a totally different career

    Totally forgot about Ruiz!

Toney and Jones both soundly out boxed him when hugging was warned against by the ref.

Ali would have been out-mauled on the inside on a few occasions.

    Tony Tucker would be forgotten.
Botha and Holyfield would've both been DQ'd against Tyson.

I think most of them would adapt well, i can think of a fighter that relies on clinching to win a fight besides Wlad and Ruiz, but i think that Wlad could have been a great fighter anyway, just that he probably would have lost some fights that he won.

Are you for real, Tyson was as bad as anyone for initiating clinches.

Most of his fights, Tyson welcomed clinches for a bit of rest.

Speaking of Botha, wasn't he the fighter who locked onto the South Africans arm and wouldn't let go?

Clinching as a defensive last resort is fine. He was being battered from pillar to post and obviously the 4 year absence hurt him more than we realised.

In a round where you're that hurt you have to clinch, you wouldn't expect to win the round anyway. In a round where you aren't hurt but are still clinching, you should lose the round by default.

Who wants to see two boxers grappling in a clinch anyway?
