Wrong topic for that question but I'd say no. I have a major soft spot for Chris Snr. He gave me some great memories but he didn't fight the very best. I think if you asked him, you'd get an honest answer out of him. He was offered a fight with Hearns and turned it down stating he wasn't good enough to share the ring with him. Still, his record is pretty damn good if you really look at it. The guy was tough as nails.

Honestly mate, at the time I thought the fella was unbeatable. I loved watching him as a teenager in the 90's.

Apart from Tommy Hearn, what other great fighters did he 'not' share a ring with who were around at the time?

I ask, because I wonder if there are parallels between their careers? And thus, I thought it might be relevant to the topic.

Eubank Snr, as great as he was, was a domestic legend, a huge fish in a smaller pond. Is he trying to do the same for his son by dodging the growing list of proven world class fighters?

He's a Dad and he's trying to grow his sons brand without him getting badly hurt, so I do get it.

This was why I was trying to draw parallels with his son's career. Big fish, small pond.

His Father had some great wars ,but he also struggled with journeymen who should not have been challenging for titles. If the son stays with his Dad he will go nowhere. He might beat the moderate underpowered undisciplined, stamina lacking Saunders in a re- match, but the best 160 pounders ? No chance, he's had 24 fights and beaten no one above domestic level. There was never any intention that he would fight GGG, it was just cheap publicity grabbing. He's become a joke and I wont miss him if Hearn and Warren decline to use him, his preening, egotistical, deluded Father has really sabotaged his career, possibly terminally.

Sounds like you have some strong feelings on this....

Seriously though, you going to buy the PPV? It's only a few quid.

This is just personal opinion, but I remember Eubank Snr saying in an interview (could have been as far back as the 90's) that he would never want his child to grow up and be a fighter. So I believe this career was against his fathers wishes but he can't stop him doing it, so he manages it instead. Keeping him healthy and making him money.

I would also guess that this is why instead of finishing fights clinically, Junior chooses to turn them into brawls to show his dad how tough he is.

Seb is also boxing and getting big KOs as an amateur, he has another son but I don't think he competes. Got a nephew who boxes too. Not sure how well his wishes have stood up over time considering.

Correct, and out of those I'd only favour him over liles, Jackson, Barkley and McClellan and Herol Graham would have schooled him as well IMO.

On topic this is the definition of a joke, he harps on about how he wants to fight Golovkin and Saunders and has golden opportunities for both but then ducks them now he's fighting a complete and utter nobody. Shameful.

I think Eubank Sr. is just full of sh!t.
Yes, he did used to say how boxing is a "mug's game" and only desperate men would do it, and that his sons would not be fighters, but that was a long time ago.
That was when he was relevant, still a champion boxer or a recent one ..... and long before he was just another washed-up celebrity running out of ideas on how to re-ignite his fame and feed his ego.

Also, it's worth noting Eubank had his fair share of easy challengers and that the WBO title he held was often regarded in those days as mickey mouse title with the most ridiculous lists of rated challengers no one had ever heard of.
Aside from 4 or 5 well-known or credible names, most of his 20 odd challengers were nobodies .... and he even struggled with many of them.
