Problem with that is he doesn't have 10% of the abilty Calzaghe had.

Please James don't even put your name in the same sentence as Calzaghe it's ridiculous.

If you think Calzaghe was 10x the fighter Degale is then your acting like a fanboy.

What's the issue with this anyway? He didn't say he was better than Calzaghe, just that he wanted to emulate the success Calzaghe had in his career. Is it a crime to dare to be great now?

No fanboy just a realist. Calzaghe had everything and dominated his opponents.. degale struggles with journeymen like Medina.

    Theres levels.
It's like comparing Anthony Crolla to Ken Buchanan.

Whats the problem? He is aiming high. May not emulate Cal but he has had a bloody good career even if it was to end now.

I think he's trying to emulate Froch more than JC by wanting to take on the best from the start of his reign. Jack is no easy fight and neither were Bute or Dirrell. I'd also fancy him to be keen to take on GGG. People seem to remember JC's last 4-5 fights of his career and forget about what a disappointment he was for the first 2/3rds. He was so frustrating. I'm not a fan of Degale personality and boxing wise but he's doing the right things so far.

Yeah I know all those names too man. Have you forgotten what a mess his career was? Constantly refusing fights, refusing to travel, injuries. He wanted no part of Dawson, Glenn Johnson and even tried to bail out of the Lacy fight until Warren set him straight. It was a frustrating time. Kessler was a really good win though. Hopkins was OK but closer than it needed to be. Jones meant nothing.

Not saying it was perfect, but he did have some good wins.

As for Johnson he'd already beaten Johnson's daddy in Omar Sheika ;)

I meant the Johnson that was beating Tarver, Jones, Harding and Woods. Johnson had lost 2-3 on the trot before the Sheika fight.

Agreed, of course he had some good wins. He could have pushed himself earlier though. After he beat Eubank, I had high hopes for him but it all went a bit meh for quite some time. And that show boating against a shot Jones turned me off a bit. The guy was done.

I've always found it odd that people took the showboating against RJJ so personally. Personally I quite like Roy but his antics over the years against overmatched opponents caught up with him that night.

I didn't take it that bad, I'm just not a fan of it against a guy that could barely fight back whether it's Jones, JC or Hamed doing it. I totally get you though. Maybe it's karma but it turns me off in uncompetitive fights.

Roy Jones Jnr showboated for most of his career.

Calzaghe's performance against him was a masterclass but like what has already been said, that was a RJJ way past his best. Hopkins was way past his best. Eubank was way past his best. Not Calzaghe's fault though. Loved watching him.

Eubank wasn't past his best at all, Calzaghe was actually very green.. he was a kid... amazing performance.

Hopkins was still very good, he destroyed Kelly Pavlik's career in his next fight and continued at the top for many years after.
